Honestly, I am a bit suspicious about the US, decades of military training in the US only resulted in our officers being involved in politics and business. The result was not so good, they taught our generals the wrong kind of thinking, and this is what lies behind the whole doctrine of Dwifungsi. Should focus more on learning how to wage war effectively, and not how to become komisaris BUMN or to become kader partai.
If not ABRI then who else would stop the communist?. Latin America countries, other Southeast Asian countries, Oman, etc, were the filled with anti-communist military coup.
Cold War threat were communist then. Even though that sacrificed individual right and democracy , but at least the economy were increased and the precursors of the current world was made during that time.
The US trained officers program for TNI/ABRI, especially for the army is only started at early New order era by 1966 after previously suspended, and some of them is actually the one who abolished the Dwi Fungsi ABRI during early Reform era in early 2000, that's including from the support of former presiden SBY.
Nope. US trained our Army were not stop even after the Soekarno’s 1958-1960 era. US put a lot of effort to backed Indonesia’s ‘state within state’ Army during the Yani’s era. the PKI of certain region or Communist aligned activities would be
digembosi by local Army. That Army activities were not far from US backed SSKAD officers, whos the
wadan was very close to RAND Corporation and other US backed programs to fought communist in Indonesia, even Berkeley Mafia were lectured the SSKAD before New Order. Ibrahim Adjie and his Siliwangi Army were very good at that kind of job. You can see Ibrahim Adjie anti-communist activities even before the October 1st 1965 in Ulf Sunhaussand’s book.
What i still don’t know until now is US MAAG in Indonesia during the Guided Democracy era. Must be interesting if someone talk about that.
