yes, as you pointed out majority of Turks mindset is satisfied with being a supplier and not star of the show.That is because Turkish companies prefer to avoid competing. They just want handouts; in this case, they get them by becoming part of foreign companies supply chains. I think this risk-averse behaviour is a by-product of the developed rent-seeking culture.
Currently, 36% of Turkey’s manufacturing exports consist of medium-tech products and 61% of low-tech products, leaving only 3% to high-tech products exports.
This mentality is to the detriment of our nation. Allowing companies with superstars to be sold to foreign hands is also a bad idea because the owner scores hundreds of millions of dollars and can retire without a worry.
We need entrepreneurs who goes up to Bill Gates level and don't retire.
