Contricusc, the USSR dissolved from within, under peaceful circumstances.

Surely you grasp the difference to what you're proposing, right? Like, it's coming as bad-faith discussion with you at this point, seems the other guy's probably right about you.

While the circumstances were different, it doesn’t mean the outcome can’t be the same. Think about the rebelion in Cecenia. They sent the military to quell the rebelion. What would have happened if at that time the Russia military was fighting a serious war like the one in Ukraine and didn’t have the resources to fight the Cecen rebels?

Do you think they would have stopped the rebels with nukes? It is more likely that they would have just negotiated with them and allowed for an independent Cecenia, because they would have had no better option if the army was not in a position to intervene.

NATO has zero desire to curbstomp Russia as a nation-state into broken-up oblivion, as it likewise has zero interest in Russia coming apart at the seams through violent internal strife/upheaval.

Unfortunately NATO just wants to weaken Russia, not to desintegrate it. This is why they are not helping Ukraine sufficiently and are not allowing it to strike in Russia using the donated missiles. I just hope that the situation will evolve in a way that Russia’s collapse will become inevitable despite NATO not trying to achieve that.

Call that weak if you will. Most people call that "we'd like a non-irratiated planet to continue".

This thing with nukes and an irradiated planet is just a scary story not anchored in reality. First of all, even if it would come to a few nukes being used in a war, it will be most likely to happen on the frontline with tactical nukes, which don’t cause too much radiation.

As for a “radiated world” because some bigger nukes have been detonated, that’s just another myth. Think about the time when nukes were being developed and tested. There used to be nukes being detonated all the time.

There have been over 500 atmospheric detonations and over 1500 underground ones, yet we don’t live in an irradiated planet and humans did not go extinct. And keep in mind that the Soviets once detonated the Tsar bomb, which was much bigger than any strategic nuke of today, as it was too big to be delivered by any other means than a gravitational drop. And dispite all that, the world didn’t end, it just moved on.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not advocating for the use of nuclear weapons, I’m just pointing out that this scary scenario with the world being ended if a few nukes are used is complete bonkers.

At this point I think I'm done with you, though. We'll just have to wait and see how this thing pans out, we'll resume the "did the invincible glorious Ukraine show every military analyst that their weaknesses were purely made up and vanquish the evil Russian orcs?" hypothetical a couple years down the line. Keep on keepin' on, though.

We shall see what happens in the future. I just hope Ukraine will continue to receive strong support in both weapons and money so they can continue the war and consume Russia. They will soon develop even better long range weapons themselves, and they will be able to inflict even more damage to mainland Russia, so there is hope.

Ukraine received 6 F-16 jets, only 5 left now lol, that was fast

Maybe more destroyed on the ground. RU hit the airbase where they are located with cruise missiles after somebody leaked a photo of their location.

First I've heard of any additional F-16s taken out, skeptical on that personally. But they definitely lost the one and its (apparently very senior/decorated) pilot though, Ukrainians and western media are reporting that now too.

Sounds like probably either friendly fire, or he collided with one of the incomings he was trying to shoot down, doesn't seem like a Russian downing.

At any rate, like with the rest of the war the pilot's more valuable than the airframe, they need every flight-trained human they can get. Sounds like he was top-tier among their pilots too, so a pretty fucky day for them it seems.

Then create another middle east like mess with thousands of nukes so that europe can feel safe? The reality is Russia is a " european problem" and americans know that they dont want to spent valuable resources taking on an enemy who is "neutered". Various US officials had warned european leaders about Russia having revisionist aims and they were ignored or laughed at. EU had no problem guzzling russian oil and allowing their oligarchs a place in their economics. With all that when ukraine happened they blame the Americans and the world for not doing enough!!!

I agree with you that many European leaders made big mistakes in their relationship with Russia, especially when it comes to Germany, Austria and Hungary. They thought Russia could be a partner, and they thought Putin was a rational person. They were wrong, and the warnings about Russia’s revisionist aims were right.

But the past is the past, and mistakes can’t be undone. At least now, there seems to be more consensus in Europe about the need to help Ukraine and weaken Russia. There are still traitors like Orban in Hungary, but most of the EU is in agreement that Putin is an enemy and there is no going back to the past friendly relationship.

Hopefully the EU will remain focused and will help Ukraine achieve victory. The US cannot be relied on too much, as they have thier own interests and may change their policies anytime.

USA 🇺🇸 has placed an order with Lockheed Martin to purchase approximately 20,000 GMLRS rockets, including the new GMLRS-ER version which is expected to double the range out close to 150 km. The purchase is valued at $3.43 Billion usd and deliveries will begin immediately and will be completed sometime in 2027. Lockheed is currently producing approximately 6000 GMLRS units per year and they are in the process of expanding production significantly.

This is important for Ukraine because GMLRS has been among Ukraine's most valuable mid range strike strike weapons. They are extremely accurate and hard to intercept when launches from HIMARS and M270s. This new order will replenish U.S. inventories and allow USA to continue to send healthy quantities of the rockets to Ukraine.

As of now GMLRS isn't doing that well.

Well how is the NATO war against Russia going? :)

Like Trump said: "We have almost no ammo left because of Zelensky".

And Ukraine has almost no people left. A great empty land where all those Syrian and Afghan refugees could work at massive sunflower fields for Western corporations. :)

In the Netherlands they call this 'omvolking'.

In English it should be 'repopulation'.

Ukrainian FPV drones have started using incendiary mixtures, the first data about them appeared on August 18 on the Soledar front line. It is unknown what models of drones and what suspension for spraying the mixture are used. Initially, it was assumed that a substance similar to napalm was sprayed, but at the moment, the composition of the incendiary mixture is not reported. It is known that the flammable mixture is difficult to extinguish.

An episode of combat work by a Russian crew of an M-46 130mm artillery gun in the Kursk region of Russia. The gun's fire is adjusted by reconnaissance aircraft from a UAV. The M-46 gun's firing range is up to 37 kilometers

Footage of a strike by a Russian FPV drone VT-40 Sudoplatov on a Ukrainian M577 command vehicle. The video was filmed in the Kursk region of Russia. The M577 command vehicle was developed in the United States in 1962 on the basis of the American-made M113 armored personnel carrier. The M577 is armed with a 7.62 mm machine gun and is designed to control troops at the operational-tactical level and can also be used to transport the wounded. Judging by the force of the explosion, in this case the Ukrainian M577 command vehicle was used to deliver ammunition and personnel.

Clear footage of the Russian Pantsir-S1 air defense missile system intercepting a Ukrainian 277mm M31A1 guided rocket, and a US-made HIMARS MLRS has been released. The video of the interception of the M142 HIMARS MLRS rocket was filmed in the Kursk region of Russia. The M31A1 rocket is a difficult target for air defense, since the RCS of the M31A1 projectile is presumably about 0.07 square meters, and it also has a high flight speed. The air defense crew must make a decision and intercept the target within a short period of time. The M31A1 HIMARS MLRS rocket was detected at a range of about 10 km and shot down at a range of 6,200 meters. Two 57E6 Pantsir-S1 air defense missiles were needed to intercept the target.

Not true at all. It continues to be useful in a variety of sectors. I can post many recent videos of GMLRS being used to smash high valued Russian equipment. If you would like the evidence I'm happy to oblige?

The UK 🇬🇧 announced that they have purchase 120,000 152mm artillery shells for Ukraine. The price was nearly $400 million usd. Deliveries will take place throughout the remainder of 2024 and 2025.

While 155mm shells are most important because they are the NATO standard shell and superior to the 152mm shell used in Eastern Europe, Ukraine still has many 152mm artillery systems and producers such as Bulgaria 🇧🇬, Poland 🇵🇱 and The Czech Republic 🇨🇿 have the capacity to build build new shells for those systems.

USA 🇺🇸 will provide JASSM cruise missiles to Ukraine as previously suspected. They are expected to be announced in a military aid package for Ukraine this coming fall.

Ukraine badly needs these stealthy cruise missiles to supplement the Stormshadow cruise missiles sent by Britain 🇬🇧, France 🇫🇷 and Italy 🇮🇹. Those missiles are in short supply, where as the United States has thousands of JASSMs and build 650+ units per year. With the introduction of the JASSM-ER into the U.S. arsenal, they now have dozens of disposal conventional JASSMS that can be sent to Ukraine to supplement ATACMS and Stormshadow in terms of long range strike capability.

Very much true actually. In fact, after three/four misses 1 (recorded) successful hit is the definition of not doing well.

By the second year, according to a senior Ukrainian military official. “everything ended: the Russians deployed electronic warfare, disabled satellite signals, and HIMARS became completely ineffective, this ineffectiveness led to the point where a very expensive shell was used” increasingly to strike lower-priority targets. Though Kyiv still considers its HIMARS rockets valuable, but Russian jamming can cause them to miss a target by 50 feet or more. “When it’s, for example, a pontoon bridge … but there’s a 10-meter deviation, it ends up in the water,” another Ukrainian official said.

A battalion commander, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to do so publicly, described flying a reconnaissance drone in foggy conditions last year in Bakhmut to track a HIMARS strike on a Russian position. On his screen, the commander watched in dismay as each rocket missed.
