As you said, this is just an MOU, which covers cooperation between Indonesia and Turkey in developing KAAN. For some reason, the Turkish media and people in the Turkish government are exaggerating this agreement, treating it as if it were a contract.

By the way, there are a few corrections to your statement above. The Rafale has not been canceled, it's already in the DA backlog and will be delivered in early 2026. Jakarta is even interested in adding a few dozen more Rafales.

As for the J-10, there is a rumor that Jakarta will purchase 42 used J-10s from China, but this has nothing to do with the Rafale. This rumor has been around since last year.

As for the SU-35, that's still a rumor, but what's certain is that the contract for this fighter jet has only been postponed, possibly while waiting for CAATSA relief.

Lastly, the F-15EX procurement is still at the MOU stage, just like the KAAN case. There is no contract yet, nor has it reached the LOA stage.

I stand corrected for the Rafale. Thanks.
You have more or less corroborated my views about the KAAN.

This is very good news, but I think everybody knows that Indonesia will not pay on time. We need to sign a solid agreement on the payment schedule.

So it is not just 48 but 60 Kaan with addition of 12 to Indonesia. I have a Turkish friend who spends half of his year in Indonesia, I bet he will be walking proud today.

why, did he work on the jet or facilitate the purchase?

Honestly, this creates a significant misunderstanding. It gives the impression that a contract is already in place, when it's clearly still at the MOU stage.

No, those are projected. But the legally binding contract hasn’t been signed yet.

I and many others don't give a f.... About the banner behind them. The paper they're signing could be anything else.

And yes, that is how little we believe in anything coming out of the Turkish officials mouths.

Will be too many expensive jets, they are buying 40 new 5th gens, awacs and air defense form China, they seem to have realized the immediacy of their weaknesses after recent incident and won't wait for Kaan and won't have money for it any time soo. Maybe in the future
Who is talking about soon?
First available KAAN(5th gen) for export will be in 2035.

A very good news I guess! Yet I was kind of hoping that we could find partners who could contribute to development budget as well... Seems we are still alone in the hardest part yet finding customers to a finnished product to keep the TAI bussy and and to reduce the unit cost is almost equally important I guess.

Pakistan is purchasing the J-35 fighter jet at a discounted price without having paid off the loan for the J-10. China is providing a new loan for the J-35 while deferring the repayment of the J-10 loan.

Since Pakistan is already repaying two separate aircraft loans, it cannot afford to purchase our KAAN fighter jet with an upfront payment.

Can we offer them credit? (We were unable to offer credit for warship sales to other countries.)
We dont need to,by the time they need some KAAN's there will be countries like KSA,QATAR and other GCC countries willing to pay for Pakistan as they did in the past.
KSA even paid for our F-16's in the past when we had no funds.
Dont forget,Pakistan is the only muslim country with nukes and our closest ally.
Pakistan would come immediately in a war time situation, who else would?
In 10 years our economy will be in better shape, even with bad leadership,no worries.

It looks like two MoU were signed, one for procurement and another one for cooperation.

Jakarta, IDM – Indonesia and Turkey have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the development of the fifth-generation fighter jet KAAN.

The signing of the MoU was witnessed by President Prabowo Subianto during the Indo Defence 2025 Expo & Forum at the Jakarta International Expo (JiExpo), Kemayoran, Jakarta, on Wednesday (June 11).

"President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, witnessed the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Indonesian Ministry of Defense and the Secretariat of Defense Industry of the Republic of Turkey. Both countries agreed to cooperate in the development of the fifth-generation fighter jet KAAN," stated the press release from the Indonesian Ministry of Defense on Wednesday.

The MoU was signed by Head of the Defense Facilities Agency (Kabaranahan) of the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, Air Marshal Yusuf Jauhari, and Secretary of the Turkish Defense Industry, Haluk Görgün.

The signing was also witnessed by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan, Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, and Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey, Achmad Rizal Purnama.

With this agreement, Indonesia, through PT Dirgantara Indonesia, is officially involved in the development of the KAAN fighter jet in collaboration with Turkey.

I can imagine that some African states will also be our customers.
KAAN will be the backbone and the Future of Turkish Air force. No need for big words but I dont think we will face much difficulty in finding satisfactory amount of customers. Another advantage will be Unlike most 5 gens, KAAN will be a progressive platform i.e KAAN will develope gradually and in stages.
