Well, Azeris from Azerbaijan joined Nuri Pasha, Azeris from Tabriz didn't do shit, when Vehip Pasha was in Tebriz. I understand, it was a long time ago . I don't think that this would be good idea , South Azerbaijan joined Turkiye? In any case, they are more pro Mullahs then Iranians .
Of course, it would be even worse for Azerbaijan proper.
At some stage , people need to understand that sometimes when people are parted away, there's no practical return.
I am sure that there are some good and useful people there, but no. Not really. Iraqi Turkmen, who are Shia ain't friends of Turkey, afterall they come into existence as , only to oppose Ottoman Empire, that's their reason D' etre from day one. It has been good on for 600 years. It is too long.
Even Nadir Shah could had brought any sense into them. He was a Turk but Sunni . Simple and practical thing really, I am not writing this from sectarian point of view but simply pragmatism.
People don't need to be of the same nationality, even religion but they should have similar minds in regards of many things. This is not the case here.

I wonder if those various Turk empires could have seen today if they would have spent so much time warring with each other.

Azerbaijan would be guarded but hopeful, minor actions only.

Turks of iran are well integrated and while culturally repressed somehow, they are not a savage mountain folk like some others, so they wouldn't rebel and cause ruckus at first opportunity. A scenario where South Azerbaijan was to form a seperate political body would be a scenario where central authority of iran completely disintegrates. And even then the new body politic would be somewhat close to whatever is left from the central government. Kurds, Baluchis and Ahvaz Arabs would be the instigators of violent separatism before it comes to Turks of South Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan would absolutely back Turkey in this case, not only would it prevent continued abuse of our ethnic brethren but if Turkey controlled South Azerbaijan it would also mean an end to Iranian drug cartels attempting to smuggle goods through Azerbaijan since they commonly use the land border.

I can't exactly speak for south Azerbaijanis but in the event that Iran does break apart, I think them joining Turkey would be better than reuniting with the republic of Azerbaijan because from my experience south Azerbaijanis tend to have more in common with Turks than us, culturally speaking.

Plus it could help boost Turkey's TFR since south Azerbaijanis have lots of kids on average and would likely explode in population size under a government that isn't actively trying to suppress them.

I don't think north and south parts of Azerbaijan can realistically unite in the foreseeable future. Those are two seperate countries with paths diverged nearly two centuries ago. It would cause immense problems to try to force them under the same umbrella. Just think how hard germans tried to integrate east germany and how it worked out (protip; look at AfD election maps). Those two are way more different than eastern and western germans. I also don't think they would want to unite with Turkey. We also wouldn't want that by the way. It would take a colossal effort to integrate them and even then it wouldn't work.

The dream scenario is a tri-state loose federation of western Oghuz between the three states, Turkey and two Azerbaijans. We are talking about 100-120 million people + peripherals. That's superpower territory.

Dragi susjedu, I am also of the opinion that there would be all sorts of scenarios. It seems to me that this would open up many more questions than it would solve. I have not come across any information that Iranian Azeris are rebelling against Iran, moreover, the leaders of the current Iranian government are from the Azeri minority.

Exactly, you are right. And if 2 uncles of mother could have get frozen in Sarikamis for the people who weren't citizens of Sublime State ( that was the official name of Ottoman Empire and that is how I'm Bosna we called) then I would expect something more.
Unfortunately, life has more questions than the answers.
The first group of Islamic Republican Guards which were in Bosnia were brilliant people and they helped us more than Turkiye but I will quote an officer from IRGC " Our government sent the best that they had , now we are recalled, completely different people will come" I know who said that where and to whom.
I truly wish that things turned differently, I have known some truly beautiful and excellent people from that side, but their voices got suppressed in the wind. Simply, the moment that they turned their back at Khoyali massacre, I lost trust in them. Mind you, I myself was very busy with the Serbs at that time.
It truly saddens me that I have to say all of this, it really does.

I never look history in ifs and buts , mostly because many occurrences in history are exactly like human nature. One French historian had opinion that Ottomans should had concentrate in destroying Safavids then Mughals . After that with concentrated forces, occupy Europe. Maybe he was right. But sometimes it is just luck . At some stage in WW1 , Ottoman Army was 60 km from Tehran. If Enver Pasha Rahimullahi was on the victorious side in ww1, then Iran would be banana republic and South Azerbaijan would be Eastern Eyelet. But it didn't happen and we have these realities .
You can be with some who is in his character, outlook etc similar to you.
