The infiltration of the military was noticed in 1986, but...
The year is 1986. The place is Istanbul Naval High School. According to a report by İrfan Bozan from Al Jazeera, first-year students of the Naval High School, who had completed their adaptation process, were gathered in a classroom. The school commander was standing before them. The school commander addressed the students as follows: “Now I will distribute a piece of paper to each of you. There are some questions on this paper. Answer all of these questions honestly and sincerely. Don't worry, nothing will happen to anyone based on your answers. None of you will be expelled from school.”
The astonished students turned over the papers and encountered some questions. Some of the questions were:
“Do you read the magazine Sızıntı?”
"Does anyone in your family read the magazine 'The Leak'?
Was there 'someone' who guided you to come to this school?"
" Papers were collected that included questions from which clues about the families' religiosity could be obtained. After a while, a significant number of first-year high school students were expelled.
The person who answered the questions and recounted his experience 30 years later doesn't remember exactly how many were expelled, but uses the phrase "quite a few."
OPERATION IN MILITARY HIGH SCHOOLS
The expulsions from military schools targeting the Gülen Community, then known as "Fethullahists," were frequently reported in the newspapers. The February 15, 1987 issue of Nokta Magazine, one of the influential news magazines of the time, featured the headline "Second Operation in Military Schools" on its cover, stating that "Fethullahist" students had been expelled from military schools since October 1986.
1986 was a critical year for the Fethullah Gülen Community. Fethullah Gülen, who had been living as a fugitive since the 1980 coup, gave a statement in Burdur that year and was released from prison.
Recently, Ankara Cumhuriyet... The indictment against the "Main Gülen Organization," completed by the Chief Prosecutor's Office, stated that the "Gülen Organization" had been attempting to organize within the Turkish Armed Forces since 1971, and included the following findings:
"Initially small, this number increased over the years, and these activities intensified after 1984. Many of these students placed within the Turkish Armed Forces during that period are currently staff colonels or generals."
Ahmet Zeki Üçok, the Military Prosecutor of the Air Force Command and the only person within the Turkish Armed Forces to conduct an official investigation into the Fethullah Gülen movement, stated in an interview with Ahmet Hakan of Hürriyet in April 2016, referring to those same years:
"In 1986, when Yaşar Büyükanıt was the Commander of Kuleli Military High School, approximately 250 students answered all the Turkish language questions correctly on the military high school entrance exams. An investigation revealed that the questions had been stolen by the movement and given to these students. About 50-60 of these students were expelled. The rest were not expelled, with the thought that 'we might win them over'."

Yes, there should be no doubt anymore that Yaşar Büyükanıt covered up that investigation.
