TAI CEO Temel Kotil Interview.

Around Min 32.00

> 2nd largest wind Tunnel will be finished at the End of 2022 and cost a whopping 100 Million USD
> Power Consumption is expected to be 15 Megawatts!

TF-X

> He says 10 Billion will be spend and at least 5 Billion USD of that are for Engineers Salaries in 10 Years Time
- Even though he said 60 Billion for Program Cost. That might be too high.

60 billion $ budget includes R&D expenditures, technological and manufacturing investments(wind tunnel, lightning test center, composite factory etc), salaries of engineer and workers, prototype aircraft, price of 250 aircraft to be procured and life cycle costs of those aircrafts.

Fly away cost of serial production fighter is expected to be 80 million $.

He said from what they have read, f35 prototype cost was 60billion dollars.
(Of course the cost of the whole program was much higher due to problems encountered. But the initial prototype cost was 60billion dollars.)

With 60.000 mtow and 60.000 engine thrust TFX will have thrust to weight ratio of 1.
TAI website reads 2x27.000lbf but Mr. Kotil said 30.000 lbf for engine thrust.

TFX will roll out under its own engine power in 18 March 2023, only 23 months to go, exciting progress.
Seems like only 2 years behind KFX now or even less.

Not confirmed officially. The info came from a source. Overall 24 fighters will be produced for TuAF every year for ~10 years. TF-X project serial production phase will continue till the end of 2030s.

What is operational for now:
Tübitak Ankara wind tunnel
ODTU Rüzgem Large wind tunnel

To be:
Tübitak large trisonic wind tunnel
TAI large wind tunnel

for comparison, ODTU LWT has power of 3 MW, Ankara LWT has 1 MW.

there will be 4 large wind tunnels will be operational by 2023, Ankara wind tunnel can be decommissioned as well or they can overhaul it further for munitions only.

Winds are pretty strong nowadays, time to take off.

If push comes to shove, there is Motor Sich AI24 engine with 1650hp shaft power turbo prop engine.

Unfortunately not possible, everything has been designed for that size and weight. You have to create another plane from scratch for another engine, PT6A-68 weights 270kg while AI-24 is 600 kg. Size, fuel consumption, weight etc. everything is different. Only sustainable solution is to design a similar engine by using TS1400 core. For comparison CTS800-4A weights 163kg without shaft / gearbox and 185 with shaft, so TS1400 would better suit the role in couple of years..
