Yesterday, HAVELSAN CEO was a guest at Teknolog.
Maybe a philanthropist (hayırsever) member can summarize the video and post the content in the related threads.

Carrying the topic here to not clutter the Kaan thread.
The majority of People call it Istanbul and not Constantinople. The same will happen with Türkiye and Turkey. It will change but it needs a lot of time.

It won't. Calling Constantinople Istanbul made sense. It was more similar to our language and it was a name already in use by the locals for centuries.

Changing the international spelling from whatever it was in that language to Türkiye is not at all similar to the change to Istanbul. Saying it's the same as the bird so we need to change it is a direct proof of lack of self respect or eziklik if you will. It's Turkey.

Atatürk declared to the world the PTT(post office) will not deliver any package or letter adressed to Constantinople. That's how the world got used to "Istanbul"

We need a similar move, but not with this name. They should've thought this through. :/

Is "India" used in any notable prevalence in Turkish language compared to "Hindistan" out of interest?

It would make no sense to me for India to dictate only India is to be used in all foreign languages...given Bharat to begin with is given co-official status with it as well and Hindustan/Hind is used as well still in number of things and places depending on context.

Just like it would make no sense for China to insist everyone call them Zhongguo (or its direct translation - Central country)....even though say Cathay has long fallen out of favour internationally.

You go to China too and say "America" to local and they likely wont know what you mean as opposed to "Mei guo" (or Mei Gwok in Cantonese I know).

Various names all have their long legacies in end.

Turkey (or Turquie in French that I also know) in most languages.... itself is essentially a transliteration of Turkiye (in Turkish).

I opposed Indian effort to replace names like Bombay with Mumbai, or Calcutta with Kolkata (or closer to where I'm from drastic change from Madras to Chennai).

i.e I thought it was fine to have names in English (and other languages) and different name in local language.....but now these changes are baked in and people just use whatever they want to use (sometimes both)....and of course politically inclined people (of some unidimensional conformity bent) can get triggered by it....because lot of people love politics too much.

Remember the first few days when people were not sure if name of TK was changed to Turkiye Airlines as well? Of course they didn't think it through.

Turkey comes from Latin which Turchia aka Land of the Turks.

You can educate and teach them origins of the word Turkey to everybody.

Still gonna not care and just laugh ahahaha Turkey you are named after a bird in which we eat for thanks giving.

Muhalefetin halini özetliyor.
Bro stop trying to pin dirty politics to the opposition, AKP has done way, way, way worse than that. AKP is the reason FETÖ exists. 28 February gang would have exterminated those rats if Tayyip didn't ignore 2003 MGK decisions. You people are acting like we are idiots and it's pissing people off. If KK acts treacherous we'll bring him down, too. It'll be easier than stopping Tayyip. Stop living in alternate universes.

Long live the Turkish republic. Long live Halaskar Mareşal Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's legacy.

The February 28 gang had already acted together with Fetö (sorry Meral Akşenerle). These words are his own, I am not saying them.

Meral Akşener took part in the meeting of the MGK, where the 28 February decisions were taken. And she said she would strictly enforce the headscarf ban. She also does not hide that she openly supports FETO. Oh my God! When are you going to get your head out of the sand?

Cry moar my friend. We will restore our beloved republic and rejoice. The Turkish Republic will reach into eternity, carrying with itself the legacy of great Atatürk and his principles. You will be sad but no one really cares about that. I'm going to blast Kemalist marches at full volume after the election just to make fundamentalist trash upset. Anyone that tries anything will meet with stern language (and maybe more lmao). The rule of the ignorant masses is finally over. The time of enlightenment is upon us.
