It was the similar case with Ottoman Turkish actually. The Arabic alphabet with a ton of consonants were not a good match for vowel rich Turkish.

Not really. Actually, right after I took the Japanese course for a while and dropped it (shame on me), I was naturally more careful listening the Japanese parts when I rewatched it on VHS. Dude, I was amazed to hear it and that particular scene etched to my mind
