HERE ARE THE NEW CAPABILITIES THAT ASELSAN HAS ADDED TO STEEL DOME!
ASELSAN's pedestal-mounted Stinger system project began in 1989 and was ready for production around 1994, but the project stalled until 2001 because the government did not approve production. After 2001, the Atılgan and Zıpkın KMS's were produced and gradually added to the inventory. I remember when they first started appearing in parades in 2004/2005, everyone was very proud and showered them with praise.

A lot has changed since then. Who would have said that ASELSAN and other Turkish defense industry companies would develop dozens of different air defense systems and acquire anti-ballistic capabilities! As the Turkish nation, we have truly accomplished great things, but this should not lead us to complacency. We must continuously strive for even more; we cannot afford to be weak.

Additional Series Production Contracts for Air Defense Systems Signed

The signing ceremony for the Additional Series Production Contracts for Air Defense Systems took place today at the Presidency of Defense Industry's signing ceremony area, with the participation of the President of the Defense Industry, Prof. Dr. Haluk GÖRGÜN, Aselsan General Manager Ahmet AKYOL, and Roketsan General Manager Murat İKİNCİ.

This additional contract, signed on SAHA 2026, is another strategic step to be taken within the scope of the SİPER-1, SİPER-2, SİPER-A, and SİPER-4 projects, which strengthen different layers of our national air and missile defense architecture.

-Within the scope of SİPER-1, a significant process was initiated with the series production contract signed between the Presidency of Defense Industry and the ASELSAN-ROKETSAN Partnership on December 1, 2023. With the contract amendment made within the scope of the project, which has already delivered its first battery, the additional battery and missile needs of the Land Forces Command and the Air Forces Command have also been included in the project. The SİPER-1 systems are targeted to add new capabilities to the Turkish Armed Forces' inventory between 2026 and 2031.

-In the SİPER-2 project, following the serial production contract signed on October 29, 2025, a contract amendment agreement announced at SAHA 2026 aims to meet the Air Force Command's additional fleet, battery, and missile needs. The SİPER-2 systems are intended to be added to the Turkish Air Force's inventory between 2027 and 2032, offering effective defense capabilities against air-breathing targets, cruise missiles, and air-to-ground munitions.

-The SİPER-A Project, developed in the field of sub-layer ballistic missile defense and first announced at SAHA 2026, constitutes a strategic threshold in terms of air and missile defense architecture. Thanks to its AESA-based RF seeker head, precise target detection and tracking capability, and rapid reaction capability,
this system will be one of the critical elements of the Steel Dome vision in ballistic missile defense.

- -The SİPER-4 Project represents the higher-level capability of this vision. SİPER-4 aims to meet the Turkish Air Force Command's need for higher-level anti-ballistic missile defense systems, thereby advancing national competence in radar, guidance, command and control, missile technologies, and system integration.

Based on the shared information, the SİPER-A system is intended to be a PAC-3 equivalent, while the SİPER-4 system is intended to be a THAAD equivalent in terms of technical specifications.

The GÖKALP System, notable for its drone-hunting capabilities, is a high-speed interceptor drone developed using low-cost industrial products. It integrates into a detection-identification-tracking chain against FPV and kamikaze drone threats, operating on the principle of kinetic impact destruction.

Ahmet Akyol stated that GÖKALP, developed as an effective solution against "Şahid" type kamikaze UAVs, is equipped with sensitive AESA radar and electro-optical systems, and utilizes two different interceptor drones: short-range and medium-range. Akyol emphasized that the system performs kinetic destruction by detonating the approaching kamikaze UAV in mid-air after radar tracking, and that it can do this automatically. He noted that the system works not only with ASELSAN solutions but also with Skydagger's interceptor systems, and that GÖKALP is targeted to enter the inventory next year.

ASELSAN's game-changing technologies, the MİĞFER Self-Defense FPV Interception System, were showcased for the first time at SAHA as part of the launch event, mounted on a 4x4 armored vehicle. MİĞFER is designed as a defense system for 4x4, 6x6, and tank-type platforms against mini-micro UAV targets. The physical destruction subsystem within the system neutralizes the threat using a hard-kill method.

Ahmet Akyol stated that thanks to its radar and LIDAR infrastructure, the MİĞFER system can automatically detect FPV drones at very short distances and physically destroy them with special ammunition, describing the system as "a solution that can automatically hunt down FPV drones like hunting birds."

They've been working on a revolver type 35mm, similar to KDG. Some of the weapon systems showcased over the years require the smaller footprint of the revolver to exist. Non surprisingly, all those systems also went nowhere, because they have no guns as MKE is yet to show it.

Ehm. FINALLY.
"A contract for the "Procurement of High-Velocity 35 mm Cannons" was signed between the Defense Industries Presidency and MKE."

Is this the same as they want to use with MKE TOLGA?
Yes. But still, the previously showcased Mantis like 35mm turret wasn't a real thing; it was a mockup copy of the Mantis. I do hope Aselsan renovates all its 35mm gun line now. We need Göker.

EJDERHA/AD 210 seems to be something more capable of handling things on its own not only with a bigger antenna but its own sensors too (That coaxial optic though :D)

There's one thing I want to know why. Skyranger has 1×1000. Gökdeniz has 2×550. Göker is also single barrel. What's the reason behind 1000-1200 rpm numbers? Why not 2×1000?

Are those development contracts or supply contracts for 25/35 to be integrated into korkut/gürz vehicles?

Wouldn't that be because German Metallurgy is better than ours and their barrels can withstand those numbers.

That would be another way of looking at it but I always thought higher fire rate would be overkill as both designed to shoot airburst rounds

No I mean why doesn't the German use two of the same barrels. Their system has 1000 rpm capacity. Why not make it 2000?

Size and need. 1200 rpm is enough for airdefence when using airburst rounds also it would eat up the munitions to fast and to revolver canons are too large

1000 is more than enough. Ammo count is what matters really. Mantis should have about 250 rounds ready to fire, don't think it's too different for Gökdeniz in total for two guns. For Mantis, a 1.5 sec burst is about 25 rounds. That gives you 10 engagements. Any larger and you need a bigger housing, and a bigger truck to carry it around.

And wouldn't it also make it more complex and also have an impact on the accuracy ?

Not to mention the weight.

No offense but the translation should be different. Velocity is different, isn't it?

Anyway great news. Also I can't understand why current 35mm cannons can't reach 1000rpm since all are revolver cannons.
Maybe they reduced rpm due to fragile endurance of turret?

ADEN 30x113 with 1500rpm also has same revolver mechanism.
