If we were doing these negotiations 10 years ago, I would be completely fine with it.

When were our relations with our "allies" better, now or 10 years ago? And negotiations for the EF goes on for years already.
Afaik the only thing we could do earlier was to get Vipers. But did we need the Vipers back then urgently? I don't know.

Until 2019 we were buying F-35. Afaik there was no need for other Jets.

Context:

Germany needs orders to keep the Eurofighter assembly line in Germany busy and running until Tranche 5 comes, or something.
Otherwise it will be closed and the engineers etc will probably leave the country to work on other projects.

So does Germany want that turkish EFs to be produced in Germany instead of GB or does Türkiye only want to buy Tranche 5?
I didn't understand that.

2015 relations were still good and we were still part of f35 so there was a need for new fighter but we could choose what we wanted.
we could have bought eurofighters but compared to f35s they didn't make sense

The final assembly point for EF jets is the United Kingdom. The UK says: 'Let me handle the sale, let Germany provide the financing. Everyone should fulfill their production responsibilities and send the parts to me; I’ll do the final assembly and deliver the jets.' However, each country is trying to avoid providing the credit while still aiming to profit from the production.

Edit : Tranche 5 is not yet ready for export. It still requires significant design modifications and capability developments, and is not expected to be available for sale before 2030.

Yeah, so until 2019 we didn't even need other fighters like Viper or EF. Because we were buying F-35. After that our relations were bad with almost everyone.
Thanks for reminding me.

So our "allies" gave all the money to Ukraine already or are they just greedy 🤔

Yes, I think we'll hear a lot of things after the official visit.

"German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that he will soon visit Turkey at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan."

"German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that he will soon visit Turkey at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan."

Merz already announced that he sees no reason not to green light the sale. Of course he can change his mind but there is no reason to do so. Airbus and all the other partners are pushing for the sale. Would not surprise me if a contract is signed at IDEF but more likely at the end of the year with deliveries starting 2027-2028 in quick succession.

The more interesting topic is the F-35. It is clear that there are serious dialogues ongoing in the background. And I think the sudden “interest” in the KC-46 is a signal things are moving in the right way here too. Unless some twist happens I expect an huge package to be announced including F-35, KC-46 and maybe some other goodies in the near future but due to the ongoing conflict it could get delayed.

Reports being leaked to greek lobbies confirm this too.

At least it seems like we're kinda not putting all eggs in one basket this time.
There might be new F16, maybe Eurofighters maybe even F35 or a combination of all three.
Hope we dont mess it up this time, because we a huge gap to bridge.

Here we have the participants for Anatolian Eagle 25. 10 regional countries, good start. It'll be an F-16 and Eurofighter fest with hopefully Hungarian Gripens?

Why does Indonesia not participate?
I hope they will come to the next one.

That leaves out UAE, Pakistan and Oman. I really doubt Pakistan is not an active participant so their reporting must be wrong. or outdated.

They don't have tankers, as far as I see, they usually join the regional exercises, maybe in the future.

These are the countries listed in the official statement. Pakistan released a patch for tracking purposes. There were rumors that it might not be subject to tracking due to the ongoing conflict with India.

Edit : We saw some countries participating in the International Anatolian Phoenix-2025 Exercise last month that were not mentioned in the official press release.

Disagree on tweet. First, first Özgürs are already now in active use with units. Second, Daggers are based in Konya, so that's her home base.

At the background, Qatari Eurofighters are already deployed for AE25.
AE25 = Anatolian Eagle 25 ?

I recommend you read the tweet again.
