If want to add our own electronics right away wouldn't it make more sense to buy some older block 50/52 from USAF as they want to get rid of them anyway. Preferably one with low flight hours and then put them through özgür mod. Would be cheaper for us and worthwhile for the americans getting money for something they wouldn't. LM would still want money for the rights but overall price tag would be lower
The US doesnt want that
It wants Turkey to buy brand new, ultra expensive, F16 Viper jets to keep the F16 production line going, gain more profits, and keep more people employed

why is that? The americans aren't that desperate to sell aircraft as the british
It's not about yanks being desperate, its about the fact that we aren't anymore. If they refuse us and say "Take it or leave it" we now have the option to say "Alright, we'll leave and take our billions to Europe", obviously it wouldn't happen like this but it still gives us more options than before.

Also, while LM is selling a lot of jets, they would love to sell more and wouldn't want to lose our billions, that would prevent the numbers at the end of the financial year from going higher.

And dont forget the Trump factor,he is a businessman who wants to earn money for himself or his country.
He will try anything to make it work.

How does that really work with IVEWS with which we supposedly funded?
I don’t quite understand what you mean with above question. But…..
As I understand it, we originally, have chosen to use IVIEWS (Integrated Viper Electronic Warfare Suite) of Northrop Grumman on our new F16V70 planes should we buy it as it is offered.

But above article claims that we aspire to use Murad Aesa radar with our electronics on these planes. Probably because they have found that with extra power they can get a lot more out of Murad than the AN/APG83 that comes on the plane as standard. For that, according to the above article, LM is asking too much money to release source codes. That is the stumbling block.

Whether IVIEWS is compatible with our radar and electronics is another mystery. Most likely that we had rather use our own EW suite on these planes than a US product.

According to all this info, we are asking LM to give us the license to build a shell of a plane with engines and its control mechanisms. The avionics, Aesa radar and munitions, we will provide.
One may think : How on earth will they agree to that? But if there is a price that we are discussing about ; then they maybe inclined to accept it at a price!

Who buy weapons take orders. We are now a country that produces and even sells weapons. If we buy weapons, we nationalize them, obtain source codes, or obtain special permits.

As far as I understand, we won't buy weapons unless they accept these terms, and that's the way it should be. Selling us weapons doesn't mean you can tell us what to do. We demand full access to weapons, regardless of the cost, and we refuse to interference...

Since Eurofighter agreement has been signed, we will have a stronger hand this time, let's see if it'll work.
It wasn't posted here but Erdogan also sent a message across the pond two days ago.

"We will continue to grow our partnerships with Europe in the military sector after Eurofighter..."

Lockheed is also facing problems with the production in its new facility in South Carolina....

Sadly, not sure if that was posted before, Eurofighter join production was on the table at one point.
We've been to US focused for way to long.

Yes, during the time we joined the F-35 program we were also offered to join EF as a partner. But we declined. Just like we declined to buy the F-15 when it was offered to us, or join the C-390 program as a partner when it was offered.... Sadly some of our officials don't have the ability of foresight.

Pretty much. If US insists on this logic I'd rather just buy additional Eurofighters. We produce our own domestic munitions, not being able to use our own weapons on jets we paid for is just non-sensical.

Lockheed wants us to fork over the money to expand their lines in SC so they can produce our F-16. Imagine making that demand after Türkiye signed an agreement with Europe for EF and is in talks for further cooperation.
Hilarious demands of a company who is about to pay immense fines to Taiwan for not being able to deliver their F-16s in the negotiated timeframe. How about yall give us the money we paid back and we order another 20 T5 EF with that.

Or maybe go to an american competitor.

F-15EX line has room btw just as food for thought.
