Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler stated that the work on the "Altay Tank" continues and that a total of 250 tanks will be produced within the scope of the project. Güler stated that the power group will be supplied from South Korea until the domestic engine is produced and said, “South Korea gives us 85 units. I think it's important to just get started on producing the damn tank after waiting for them for so long. can't wait for RTE to croak the way he lets his mouth run off.

Once we establish the ecosystem that can make a tank we can make varieties of them possibly very different from the current Altay configuration. So, 250 Altay maybe sufficient and we call our future tanks some name else.

I think initially the number is enough. Still it isn't clear tendencies of Future MBTs in the unmanned and electrical world.

Most probably these will be just a initial batch but until delivered they will be nothing special in terms of capabilities. I was always an advocate for intensified further studies on new generation tank that would be Altay 2 and deliveries of Altay in limited numbers while RD process of the new generation is going on.

I don’t know how up to date wikipedia is but if we have 785 M60 and 750 M48, surely Altay is worth acquiring in good numbers in this version as well. Soldiers are vocal about their dissatisfaction with older tanks.

Ukrainian TD-3 compact and light engine would be great generator for future electric driven MBT.
İmagine Ukrainian engine could produce 1500hp, you don't need transmission and you don't need to worry about low torque of engine because electric motor does everything.

Turkish engine industry should be interested in generators. They could create totally new design generators.
This free piston linear generator technology is crazy.

I don’t know how up to date wikipedia is but if we have 785 M60 and 750 M48, surely Altay is worth acquiring in good numbers in this version as well. Soldiers are vocal about their dissatisfaction with older tanks.

We should modernize the majority of our M60s to the MT level. M48s are good for next to nothing. They were used in the "Hendek" operations as moving cannons. When discussions were going on at the time I also defended a position where an independent tank fleet is formed within the Amphibious Marine Brigade Command consisting of light tanks configured according to the requirements of the TSK (The brigade is using old M48s of the Land Forces). They may be Kaplan MT or Tulpar specially equipped for the TSK.

FNSS told Mete Yarar that they know TSK is considering acquiring light tanks but still didn't evolved into a project.

Like a modernisation project to turn them into UGVs to support our tanks and infantry, so that they could have at least some value if we need to use them.

Turkey currently have 330 Leo2s and 160 M60Ts as its mainline tanks. Adding 250 Altays to that number is a 50% increase in mainline tanks. If and when T1 and T2 is complete, it will be the biggest modernization we had since Leo2 purchase in 2000s. 250 tanks is no small number and it will cost at least 3-5 billion dollars.

I would very much like our tankers to not burn to a crisp when PKK decides to lob an ATGM over the Syrian border to their M60A3. Development of a new tank and production of Altay can go hand in hand.
