According to the information given to the public in 2030, we will probably have a tank inventory as follows.

Altay (T1 + T2 ) 250
Leopard 2T 350
M60T 170

M48s are 750 completely out of inventory,
Leopard 1s are 400 reserves,
M60A3 are 650 reserves

So, who is Roketsan's MZK modernization project designed for? Will we implement this modernization package for our own tanks, or do we plan to modernize and sell our M60 tanks to allied countries?

Word reserve is carrying a lot of this post. M48s and M60s are still very much prevalent in active units in both 2nd Army and Aegean Army. Still plenty of mixed units with M60A3s in Syria as well.

I don't think it's realistic for the entirety of some 330 Leopard 2s to be modernized under TİYK in 5 years, probably would take more. And we also won't see 250 Altays by 2030. If all goes according to plan, we will have 85 Altays by 2028 with T2 for 165 more starting from 2028.

MZK turret was a tech demonstrator, we have not seen an actual interest from the army. It is possible that army plans to upgrade just the Leo2s and get more Altays. So that we can finally replace M48s.

I understand clearly, we still need a few years to predict the course of events regarding tank projects.

Since there is no concept yet regarding tanks due to the drone threat, Turkish army may move a little more cautiously and slowly.

770 tanks from 2200 is not good .
We have 4 armies and each of them should have at least 300 modern tanks
600 Altay should be produced and sent to west of Turkiye and central protecting area where greeks are with leo 2A7 while 2 other armies with armwnia ,iran, iraq , syria its not problem for Leo2T and Sabras . Another 120 M60 should heavy modernised to sabra variant and not with that funny MZK thing on top 🤦‍♂️
- 300 Altay (1st army İstanbul)
- 300 AltayT2 ( Aegean Army İzmir)
- 350 LeoT ( 2nd army malatya )
- 300 M60 ( 3th army erzincan )
( 600 m60 reserve )

So you want us to modernise our tanks using Israeli upgrade package? Are you serious? And what exactly is "funny" about MZK? It's an entirely new turret that is better protected AND lighter than the original turret M60 has, is that funny?

i mean National upgrade , 120mm gun not 105 and new engine + alot of armor , bulky armor not like MZK that looks cheap weak one .
Do u think that MZK will resist even smallest top attack drone ? 🤦‍♂️

Don't underestimate the 1050 Leopard 1 and M60A3 reserves.
Also, a single Altay is batter than three or more older tanks, some of which obsolete and a total burden.

770 + 1050 is pretty good until 2030 but more is needed to gradually phase out the older models in reserves.

Not to forget that we maintain our reserves very well and keep them in good shape and mission ready, unlike Russia or in some cases even NATO countries (Germany, UK).

Are we going to have silence mode on ALTAY, I am asking because some so called experts mentioned it on TV.
AFAIK , hybrid version has not been officially declared.

Well as far as I know the tank should have Apu(auxiliary power unit) which is like a small generator with enough power for the electronics without having to use the main engine. But that only works if the tank is stationary.

I see , silence mode means, the turret could rotate and guns could move without ICE supply.

For Akkor on Altay, I think 4 projectile is too little, at least they could try quad launcher as Chinese ZTZ-100 Tank.

Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün:

“The Heart of ALTAY Will Beat with Indigenous Power

The factory acceptance activities of the 1,500-horsepower BATU engine developed for our modern main battle tank ALTAY have been successfully completed.

Developed with national resources by BMC POWER, the BATU engine clearly demonstrates the level Turkey has reached in land vehicle engine technologies with its performance, durability, and operational capability.

With this critical milestone, the most important component of the indigenous power group has been completed, and the countdown toward the transmission qualification process has begun. Once the process is completed, Turkey will take its place among the few countries that use a fully independent power group in tracked armored vehicles. [...]"
