@MisterLike et al. what do you think about merging this thread with the other two and pinning it. I feel this debate and discussion is just getting started and would be good to have it all in one place and pinned for easy access.

Other two similar threads:

BTW guys, I just had a chat with retired RCN submariner bud of mine.

His opinion TIFWIW: Don’t get too excited. The most likely outcome of this (SSN) decision is that Australia doesn’t get any submarines.

I would imagine the French are really livid about Australia's decision to do this right now although I think the French sub deal was sunk months ago. This probably was not a rash or recent decision by the Australians. They probably had been in negotiations with both the US & UK for many months now. I would imagine the Nuc boats, no matter which class will be chosen will be SSN only. Yes the cancellation costs will be enormous. Probably in the Billions AUD but I believe an Australia 8 boat Nuclear Attack submarine whether the Virginia or Astute class would be a much better option for them. The costs in AUD dollars for 8 boats will most likely be the same as what they were going to pay for from DNCS. Maybe even lower! Maybe this will spur Canada to do the same thing as we tried to, but failed to do in 1987 to replace our Victoria class with 8-10 Nuclear Attack subs. Good on the Aussies! Cheers! :)

Mistrals were sold to Egypt instead of Russia due to pressure from the United States in the past . This is really a betrayal. Second biggest disappointment after Afghanistan.

Doesnt Russia have French tech on their tanks??

It is said allegedly that Russia uses thermal imaging for their tanks that came from France?

I honestly still dont get what the Aussies were thinking with shortfin barracuda.

They should have gone for quick SSK option with either Germans or the French.

Or if SSN was good (and always on the plate to consider), then go with the barracuda, astute or virginia.

They just wasted a whole bunch of time and money for nothing.

I agree that Canada should join this grouping. NZ too but they dont really have a submarine requirement I suppose.

Make the 5 eyes grouping a thing militarily too.

France is pissed.

kinda remind me when Fincantieri beat Naval group in Indonesian frigate procurement program

The thunderclap of Fincantieri in Indonesia strongly shakes France

The slap is enormous for the French export team. Especially since nobody saw it coming.

Will Naval Group's FDI sink Fincantieri's FREMM?

Will Naval Group's FDI sink Fincantieri's FREMM? (Credits: Naval Group)

Fincantieri's mega-hit in Indonesia announced a week ago is making waves in France. Waves in depth for the moment even if a few bubbles rise to the surface as the great disappointment on the Franco-Italian cooperation expressed by the General Delegate for Armaments (DGA) Joël Barre during his hearing at the National Assembly no open to the press. It must be said that the importance of the contract of 4.1 billion euros (six Italian FREMM frigates and the modernization and sale of two Maestrale frigates), rightly calls out in France at the time when the charge of the Lorient shipyard to Naval Group is not insured for the moment beyond 2028 (after the end of the construction of the five FDI frigates for the French Navy). And especially since this contract is already in force,

A lot of questions

Within Naval Group, which has not submitted offers, according to corroborating sources, and within the ministry, the announcement of the contract by Fincantieri surprised many and must have been difficult to digest. It also refers Naval Group and the government to its desire to engage in European cooperation at all costs, and particularly in the naval sector

France may try to sell them to Greece 😂🤣

So USA first prevented France from doing a sale and now stole Frances customer?

France also dared USA with the European Army idea against Nato.

Will France USA relations deteriorate?

I say the timing is not good, they announce it at the same time EU (which France is major part of ) released it's Indo-Pacific strategy.

EU has plans for China and Russia am I right.

I hope the EU backs when off when it comes to Turkey but I doubt it. One of their parliament members mentioned 3 revisionist countries trying to challenge the global world order which is Russia, China and Turkey. They mentioned them as 3 countries with an imperial history.

plans here means ??
don't know the details but here's my shot:

  1. Australia already complained about cost overruns + disagreements on certain technology transfer deals.
  2. Australia now being a committed player in the Indo-Pacific struggle really wants a submarine with non stop endurance--limited only by food--they'll need them to be in constant patrol in Asia.

but prolly because of showing early commitments for the recently announced AUKUS pact.
so why go nuclear you ask ?? @Nein2.0(Nomad)

French geopolitical losses are always good for the people they attempt or plan to meddle with.

After leaks at French submarine builders, it would have been very problematic if NAVAL GROUP had received the request

The other "thing" which we have to note here is that is made as big EVENT with specific words directed to france.
us,uk and australia presented A SHOW. It is obvious that it well PLANED "thing" to show on media as BIG event in the face of france. The way us,uk and australia MADE this is that they slap france and laughing..... france and world saw it.

I think this is not good behaver (make a show on the back of france ) definatly will have consequence.
Men 90bils loooooooooooot of money and cuting and laughing

france was embarrassed on front of world
