At that time it was very cost effective choice.
plus we got TOT.
Building rifles imo are no rocket science, gunsmiths in the Philippines and Pakistan regularly produce clones of M4/AK series gun. Isn't there any effort by the BOF to simply stole any available design and made their own version out of it ? And why the type 81 instead of the many Norinco M4 copycat ?

Wikipedia is saying that VT-5BD has APS.But why do you think we don't need APS?
Yep, I know, I investigated Wikipedia's source before.
It didn't look liked very convincing to me!

Anyway, if just look up the terrain where VT 5 mostly intended to deployed and fight you will get the idea why APS isn't necessary.

Hi @Flextape i was curious if you know, how many Armoured personal carrier (APC) usually one 'mech inf battalion' contains?

And what vehicles non mech inf battalions uses? Or do they use anything at all?

In one Mech Inf Bn there are a total of 44 APCs. 2 are reserved for the CO and the 2IC and the rest are divided by 3 which means each coy gets 14 APCs (just like an Armd Regt)

Regular Inf Bn usually gets a mix of BMTF Arunima 3Tons and LC 1.5Ton Pickups and Jeeps for XC

hey man good to get you back!
it seems our organizing structure follows somewhat American doctrine.

Anyway, do you know how many mech inf bn are there in total? rough estimate?

And how many regiment of 155mm self propelled howitzer we have and does army has any plan to acquire more in the long term future?

Kinda but not really. Our doctrine mostly follows a mix of most super powers

Coming to think about it I'm not really that sure as no unit is specified as a mech unit, but a rough estimate would be around 20ish

Long term, these SP Regts will most likely replace our 130mm Med Arty Regts, but in the mean time, probably no as these guns don't come cheap

I don't know actually

but yes they will most probably be under 7th Inf Div in 26th Horse because the unit still doesn't have new permanent equipment despite being raised quite sometimes ago.

Also there is no plans of making a new Riverine Brigade. yet
