Submarine chaser BNS Karnafuli is being repaired at KSY. Looks like she's a patrol boat now. Most probably this is her final repair. The second batch of Padma class OPV might replace her.

I would like to know about its performance. How is the experience of BN with the SAM?
This is only footage available from BN's exsercise.

Bangladesh Navy had gone long way from her initial formation, nowadays she is one of the force need to be reckoned especially at Bengal bay. With more new additional force recently they are one of the fastest growing Navy

Current formation fleet of Bangladesh Navy strike force now comprised of Seven frigates (two of them large ocean going Hamilton class cutter) and around six missile armed Corvettes. Not to mention her several large patrol vessels

Latest photos of BNS Sher-E-Bangla from this month. Construction of this base was supposed to be completed by this time but the deadline has been extended for another FY.

The hull is screaming to be replaced, BN can easily replace those with existing abilities any reasons to make it through major overhaul to extend the life?

AFAIK we have more vessels to decommission than the new vessels we are commissioning. It looks like BN's rapidly buying/building lot more than other two military wings but the current modernization speed is not sufficient enough to replace old vessels like that 46 old veteran.

as long as there is sufficient maintenance and proper use

DefRes is worse than what BD Military was or may be still is in posting speculative news about defense. And those admins attitude.......Mashallah!! Say something they don't like and you will get banned, even if you weren't offensive. Forget how they treated me but I was shocked to see that they banned Rafid Rezwan for a trivial matter!! Some of these guys are high on hormones i guess. Only Wasi bhai and Saurav Dutta seems decent.

Anyway i am not completely denying the possibility of La Fayette. The Al Riyadh/Formidable class actually looks pretty decent. But when latest design with modern sensors is available from UK, Italy, China, Korea and even France, it's hard to believe that Lafayette has chance unless a modified design suited for BN is being offered. People will sure start asking why navy choose an two decades of old design which will be replaced with new Belharra.

Belharra maybe a completely new design but Naval Group is known for building high quality ship. Already five are on order including one under construction and Greece is also interested in that frigate. It won't be too late to get more export success.

But i was reading about the Indonesian project yesterday and i found that the Iver Huitfeldt class and the Type 31 based on the same hull are lot cheaper than any other existing design though they are bit heavier. Which means we can get a frigate and based on it we can build a light destroyer in future. Two birds in one stone. Wonder what BN will really do.
Saurav is meh, wasi was a meglomaniac that started defres with tanvir after an argument with me in Defseca, basically they were being shitty to people and ignorant, as high an all knowing ego can get. Had to bring them down a bit before just outright banning those clowns

Good points all. If you ask me I agree that the Indonesians made a wonderful choice. These will be their lead ships, considering two frigates will cost $720 Million and that they are 6,645 tonnes displacement each. The superstructure design seems sound, and the hull is sound as well. These days no nation has money to spend on cutting edge unproven designs except the US, which has a different class of wherewithal.

But US made some mistakes too, with the latest Independence class etc.

The US can afford to make mistakes, nations like us should think five times before taking any step.
6k tons on a frigate? Damn these boys are tipping to destroyer category

Our lead ship would be those two AAW destroyer based on the Iver Huitveld class design (as recently based info i got, they chose a larger variant and insist to use 48 Slyver A50 VLS that's why there is delay in production as they adjust the new design and contact the supplier including the parts manufacturer thus the prices had been doubled by then) then the rest of the fleets would be escorted by those six FREMM class Frigates (in which they are general purpose Bergaminni class with 32 VLS and provided with spaces for SCALP Missiles) and we are still in the market for eight more Frigates...

Bangladesh Navy has already developed its capability to produce international standard nautical charts with strict adherence to IHO standards. With high standard of professionalism, Bangladesh Navy is already proficient in publishing total 63 navigational charts of our sea area including 9 International Series (INT) paper charts and 11 Electronic Navigational Charts which are accepted by the national and international marine communities and distributed worldwide for ensuring safe navigation.

If navy selected Smash 30mm gun for Padma class Batch-2 then perhaps it has also been selected for Batch-1 OPV to replace the manually operated Chinese 37mm twin guns as we saw the latter was removed from Batch-1. Also PM and MoD said we are developing a naval gun and there were multiple tenders for 11-15 30mm guns. So wondering if BN got a technology transfer from Turkey for Samsh 30mm.

How about BN opt TS 1700 and DSME 2000 submarine to build it's future fleet instead of Chinese submarine? (Though Nagapasa seems better than TS 1700). CDDL and DEW's yards are capable to launch a sub of their size, specially TS 1700 and Nagapasa .

The Submarine TS1700 is a diesel-electric submarine of which conceptual design we developed. It is propelled with an Electric Motor, two diesel generators assisted with an air-independent propulsion (AIP) system. OPlatform can dive mora than 300 m depth. It can accommodate 25+6 SF personnel for 90 days at sea on double elastic platforms which prevents the personnel and the devices from devastating effects of underwater explosions. It enables the launch of variety of 16 modern heavy weight torpedoes and guided missiles from its 8 tubes.

Design, Purpose and Capabilities

TS1700 is mainly designed to perform the following tasks:
  • Submarine Warfare
  • Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance
  • Special Operations
  • Network Centric Warfare
  • Land Attack

Sensors and Weapons

  • LPI Radar
  • Search and Attack Periscopes
  • Torpedo Counter Measures (TCM)
  • Electronic Support Measures (ESM)
  • Buoyant Wire Antenna
  • Sonars CAS, FAS, CTA, PRS, MAS, IDRS, TAS, ONA
  • Hydrophones and Accelerometers
  • Eight torpedo tubes (four tubes are available for Guided Missile) and eight additional payload stowage

Main Propulsion

  • Permanent Excited Propulsion Motor (about 3 MW)

Power Generation

  • 2x1000 kW diesel generators

Accommodation

  • Comfortable accommodation for 25 personnel
  • Galley, dry provisions, freezing rooms, separated mess rooms, resilience mounted machine room, CIC, TCC and accommodation platforms
  • Length of stay at sea: 90 days
  • Accommodation capability for +6 special forces personnel

Technical Features

Main Dimensions
Length Overall: 60,14 meters
Diameter of PH: 6,50 meters
