I’ve come across this somewhere else

*This x is from June 13 of this year

“Taiwanese Press:

Turkey did not approve the export of ZOKA acoustic counter measure scrambler and decoy systems to be utilized on Taiwanese domestic submarine project.

As a result, Taiwan decided to manufacture her own domestic torpedo counter measure system.”

I couldn’t find anything relating to this story. So, can’t make head or tail of this.
Anybody can confirm this news?

Iirc, we sold it to Indonesia, I wonder why they refused Taiwan if this is true. Maybe not to piss of China?

Thank you @Afif

Then the next question is why did not Turkey approve this sale to Taiwan 🇹🇼
Naturally, I’d right away assume it was political rather than ZOKA being a critical system.

The Turkish President rejected out of fear for Chinese sanctions.
Could you remember the official explanation?

Yeah. Could only be a political maneuver to steer away from a possible Chinese rage.

Because Taiwan made the order seem suspicious, it didn't fit to total planned new builds or upgrades and since ZOKA is a dispensable countermeasure, they neither ordered in logical amounts.

In other words, they ordered too little that it made some people certain they do not intend to be a customer but solely seeking a product to clone.

To put is simply, it is not a space tech that Taiwan may not develop on their own but it remarkably saves time and money to clone the stuff.

Otokar just announced a 136 million $ sale of 4x4 armored vehicles to an unnamed country. Cobra 2 is riding high this year.

Ares Shipyard CEO:

Expecting to deliver good news on large batch export of ULAQ USV to a Gulf State.

Expecting to win a tender in the Gulf, with a local partner shipyard, competing against a European shipyard that has been losing few tenders against Ares in multiple fields. 90% of the project will be covered by Ares shipyard. *

*Referring to partnership with ADSB, therefore delivering new OPVs to the UAE.

To be fair, if @Anmdt 's info is right, it was more than that. And even so, I can understand not wanting to piss China off. We are constantly on the knife's edge with the Western powers and we know that we can barely trust them. So, I don't mind having at least one country with good industrial capability (possibly) on our corner if our ties with the West gets far too strained.

Creating a torpedo countermeasure from scratch is a hard task. Submarine warfare is a top-secret area. Sure Taiwan might come up with something but I doubt it will perform similarly.

Well, we did.

Naval News piece on Hai Kun did mention Taiwanese creating a local substitute.
"Originally, the IDS would feature a license-produced ZOKA Torpedo Countermeasure System from ASELSAN, a Turkish defense contractor; however, as the Turkish government was tied by political factors, this plan didn’t go forward. Instead, after analyzing the ZOKA system, the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science & Technology was able to develop a domestic Torpedo Countermeasure System and integrating it into the IDS with two 6 shot canisters mounted on each side of the submarine, enabling the IDS to counter active and passive homing torpedos with soft kill capability."

Reads pretty similar to how Pulat came out of Zaslon actually.

With Zaslon, if i recall correctly our intentions were clear. Zaslon itself was outdated and it didn't seem like Ukranians were to introduce an up-to-date version. (What is more surprising i am not seeing this guy on the field at all).

Yup, don't recall a single instance of Zaslon during the war.

Greece planning to buy loitering munitions from UAE's Edge group.

At least, it would be very nice of the UAE to be so hasty in their betrayal. If they go through with this, of course.

Why do you consider what UAE doing as betrayel ? Isn't that the wrong mentality to have.

It would be better to ensure UAE invests/donation to things in Turkey that will ensure better future for the people in return for selling/joint production etc.

Like Donating shitload of money to education and such in agricultural departments.
