Does Thailand not own already several ships from China? They will probably go with them, would be surprised if we could land this deal.

Looked over their current naval inventory. It is either gonna be China or South Korea (they already own one frigate from South Korea). Would be very suprised if we can sell them 4 ships.

Thailand’s UDT partners with ASFAT to acquire four new frigates. The deal, which involves technology transfer, is part of RTN’s fleet modernisation plan.

SIPRI has published the global arms trade report for the period 2020-2024. The share of Turkish companies in global defense exports increased by 103% in 5 years. Turkey ranked 11th in arms exports worldwide.

According to the global arms transfer report of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), the international transfer volume of major weapons decreased by 0.6% in the period 2020-2024 compared to the period 2015-2019.

In the period 2020-2024, the USA, France, Russia, China and Germany were recorded as the five largest arms exporters.

While the Russia-Ukraine war significantly changed the global arms market, the share of US companies in global arms exports, which was 35% in the period 2015-2019, increased by 21% to 43% in the period 2020-2024.

Following the increasing security threats following the Russia-Ukraine war, many countries in Europe decided to increase their defense investments, while the share of French companies attracted attention by increasing from 8.6 percent to 9.6 percent and 11 percent.

The share of companies in global arms exports in Russia, which is at war with Ukraine, decreased from 21 percent to 7.8 percent, while the share of Chinese companies decreased from 6.2 percent to 5.9 percent.

THE SHARE OF GERMAN COMPANIES ALSO DECREASED FROM 5.7 PERCENT TO 5.6 PERCENT.

According to the SIPRI report, the share of Turkish companies in global arms exports, which was 0.8 percent in the 2015-2019 period, increased by 103 percent to 1.7 percent in the 2020-2024 period. Turkey ranked 11th in arms exports worldwide.

Turkey exported 18 percent of its weapons to the United Arab Emirates, 10 percent to Pakistan and 9.9 percent to Qatar in the 2020-2024 period.

With the increase in domestic and national solutions in Türkiye's defense industry, a large portion of the vehicles, ammunition and equipment previously procured from abroad began to be procured domestically.

According to the report, Turkey managed to reduce its weapons imports by 33 percent in the 2020-2024 period compared to the 2015-2019 period. Türkiye's weapons import share, which was 1.7 percent in the 2015-2019 period, decreased to 1.1 in the 2020-2024 period. The country ranked 22nd in weapons imports worldwide.

The countries that exported the most weapons to Türkiye were Spain with 34 percent, Italy with 24 percent and Germany with 19 percent (Türkiye media)

Quantitatively European military is ‘inadequate‘ at best.
They will eventually will go for ready products. Turkish military output is NATO standard. So, in the end they will have to but I was was just trying to point out that historically French are known for their pure European ideal. They are stubborn, in particular, when it comes to defense projects.

Since Trump’s decision to stop intelligence sharing with Ukraine all Ukranian f16 jets have lost their radar jamming capabilities.
Apparently, the Russian radars have been rotating their frequencies continuously to overcome f16’s jamming capabilities. US had been sending continuous updates to the Ukranian F16 radars to defeat the Russian frequency rotations. Now the French Mirages are flying with f16s to overcome this deficiency.
In a way this proves the point of how important it is to have your own defence equipment. Alternatively to buy from a source that you know will not leave you in a lurch when it becomes a life and death situation.

The American Wall Street Journal newspaper wrote that the systems deployed in Ukraine after the start of the war faced 'serious operational problems'. Why wouldnt the buy a remote turret in this day and age.

Money? Nowadays, it's common knowledge that a big cost associated with a modern APC comes from the cost of the turret. Apparently good turrets ( 30 mm,missile launchers) cost between 2-2.5million, probably cheaper lesser caliber,without missile launching capabilities.
The Estonians paid around 1.2-1.3 millions/piece for their Otokar Arma,Turkish products may be cheaper than their European counterparts,but,not that cheap.....hence,no capable turrets....it comes down to the customer, I guess.With a decent turret which Otokar would have probably added on request, the price would have probably doubled.
