14 and 3 year got rescued after 65 hours. I hope they survive. A 7 year old boy who was rescued with his mother and sister in the first 23 hours didn't survive.

Rahim ve Rahman olan yüce Allahim yardim eylesin.
The rescue is really tough, some buildings are not just collapsed in place, but also first 2-3 floors are buried underground as building sank down in soil.

I heard that column cutting process made for cafe and market businesses in four collapsed buildings. This is terrible negligence. Building inspections, inspection bodies of local municipalities and all other institutions related to zoning regulations are in this business.Tens of our citizens who died and our millions of liras national wealth were lost for the sake of gaining a few square meters of commercial space.

A similar natural disaster can create dozens of times great disaster in Istanbul. After the 1999 earthquake, it should be a shame for us that these structural problems still continue despite the real estate and construction sector growing 10 times in the intervening 20 years.

Our 14 major cities are in the first degree earthquake zone. Also seismic studies show that a 6.5+ magnitude earthquake may occur at any time in at least 6 major cities. Three of them are Istanbul, Bursa and Izmit, that is 60% of the country's economy.

Soldiers who fulfill their compulsory military service should definitely be given more effective / practical training in the field of disaster relief and organizations, and all west cities barracks should work as disaster relief centers. Many of our barracks have high bed capacity, large gathering areas, suitable runways and infrastructures for helicopters and even airplanes to land.

It is annoying to say this, but when the Istanbul earthquake occurs, more than a hundred thousand educated workforce, billions of lira worth of equipment and vehicles will be needed.

im really curious what will now happen with the buildings in bornova. All old buildings need to be demolished and be replaced by more modern ones.

Right, TSK should also take a part of such incidents, i don't know any other organization that can deploy as fast or has similar manpower. Just the right education needed.

Do we actually have some prevention measurments? Evacuation plans? etc...?
