A short answer would be that a strong currency effect the export negatively. While a weak currency makes it cheaper to export.

That’s why you’d normally look PPP+GDP to see how well a country is doing.

Even if SK currency has a high exchange rate. You have to look at how volatile it is.

As an example Japans currency has pretty much protected it’s exchange rate for the past 20 years, around 6 or so.

Not long ago when we had 20 mio bills in Turkey ppl would get paid insane amounts as well. So it’s all psycological.

If a countries economy is crap you’læ constantly see other currencies become more expensive to acquire

I'm not an expert but I would not look at the absolut Numbers to determine if a currency is strong or not. Not a long time ago the lira looked like this:


I think you have to put the currencies in relation to time to determine if a currency is strong or not. Let's take a look:

Lira/yen:

In 2007 you would get 95 yen for 1 lira (now 13 yen). Conclusion lira is weak against yen.

Lira/Won:

In 2008 you would get 846 won for 1 lira (now 145 won). Conclusion lira is weak against won.

So what is the overall conclusion? The bitter truth is that the lira is a damn weak currency! I don't know one serious currency that is weaker than the lira.
