No mention of suez war and yom kippur war....

ME: "Master Shirvan, you disappoint me!..Friends of mine hold you in such high esteem..." (In the voice of Dooku)

BTW, what do members here think of Israel-Turkey relations moving forward, especially given very visible Israeli drone role (Harop) in recent Azeri-Armenia war?

I hope one day it 'll be fine. I think country interests are more important than anything else. Interests of the citizens are no less important than the people of other countries. I think a bit like Trump. Instead of ''First America'', I say ''First Country Interests''. Who knows

Just watched it and as stressed out in in the video a Turkish-Israeli alliance is a neccessity for booth, first and foremost there is a hostile Syria to booth and the easiest way to counter it is by applying political and militaric pressure on it, those are the only languages that the baath party understands.

But apart from that booth countries have alligning interests, from Mediterranian to Kaspian, in regards of Iran, Russia and many other places.
In my opinion its only a matter of time until Turkey and Israel have the same friendly political relations as in the past, (after Erdogans departure).
The economic relations have never been better, THY is the biggest foreign carrier in Israel and half of Tel-Aviv is being built by Turkish companies.

Even Erdogan realized that and started to soften up towards Israel by promoting gas pipeline from Israel to Ceyhan and that says a lot considering his stubborn/irrational nature.

In the end of the day Turkey and Israel have no reason to be hostile to eachother, the conservative religious fraction might not agree with it but their numbers are diminishing each passing year, AKP might even be the last religious conservative party to rule Turkey in the forseable future considering at how fast they are loosing the urban centers.

It was a short video so he decided to skip wars which did not end in territorial changes i guess.

Overall its quite pro Israeli video. I agree with him that doing nothing about Palestinian issue would be a fatal mistake. Unfortunately its a strategy of Netanyahu.

He is wrong about giving too much attention to heights and strategic depth. Israel can perfectly defend itself without heights too. Israel actually offered Golan heights to Assad dad in 1999 but he refused.

The only strong army which can possess a threat to Israel is Egyptian. But Israel has good strategic depth there: Sinai plus Negev.

Plus Egypt is totally out of game: we have peace with Egypt, Egypt receives American aid, has mainly American weapons. Egypt does not have any problems with Israel but has problems with Ethiopia, Libya, Sinai insurgency etc....

Just like Egypt Israel and Turkey don't have conflicting issues. Our EMZ in Mediterranean is not conflicting with Turkish interests, surely no any territorial issues. In Syria and Azerbaijan we are rather allies. Israel has good relations with all Turkic states. Pan Arabism and the Iranian revolution export policy is common threat. Thats why despite Erdogan's personal issues with Israel relations are developing.

Yeah true. Though Yom Kippur war especially has lingering geopolitical significance (say w.r.t peace with Egypt you refer later)....so I found it surprising he left it out.

BTW I have read extensively into Suez war (in tactical analysis especially)....the significance of Mitla Pass was made apparent in that war for first time for IDF. The paratroop operation is studied in various defence colleges for Indian army for example.

Here is example of a paper (from US army) I read maybe 10 years ago:

The wars IDF has fought are something I have extensively read about (as much as possible from primary sources)...a very fascinating subject to me.

Yeah I would say only Syria is a lingering issue for Israel in recent times....as far as the neighbouring countries go.

Though of course Israel cannot fully relax w.r.t political situations with other countries too and how those may play out with respect to peace treaties and understandings signed.

Yes hopefully Israel - Turkey relations expand and increase with time. Recent decade or so w.r.t Erdogan has largely been somewhat an aberration to the larger basis that was developed till that point.

Without the political drama we would have received Arrow-2 by now in a deal worth 2bln €. Anyway business between both countries seems to be unaffected by politics.
