Statement by Writers and Poets of the Turkic World Regarding Azerbaijan and Turkey
“As poets and writers of the Turkic world gathered in the city of Kayseri, Republic of Turkey, we firmly condemn the ideas and statements raised in connection with the introduction of a unified school uniform in Azerbaijan—statements that are entirely inconsistent with the spirit of brotherhood between Turkey and Azerbaijan. We demand an immediate end to these baseless slanders.
It must be remembered that the unity and brotherhood among Turkic states—which we have aspired to for centuries—the establishment of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), the frequent meetings between heads of state, and the adoption of significant decisions and implementation of projects for the future and development of the Turkic world are sources of great joy for us; at the same time, these developments are a cause for serious concern among the enemies of the Turkic people.
The brotherhood between Turkey and Azerbaijan has played a decisive role in the formation and strengthening of the OTS. Portraying Azerbaijan—under the pretext of introducing a unified school uniform in secondary schools—as an enemy of Islam or a country that violates religious freedoms is a distortion of reality. Such approaches not only risk cooling the relations between the two fraternal states but also [threaten] that which holds great value for us all...” ...serves to hinder the progress of the OTS (Organization of Turkic States). External forces attempting to fuel the conflict... ...this is precisely the hidden agenda of these very forces.
As poets and writers of the Turkic world—who view the rapprochement of our nations as a great opportunity and a blessing bestowed by history, who have dedicated our entire lives to this cause, and who deeply grasp the responsibilities that come with this unity—we hope that the leaders of the two fraternal states will address this matter, and that an end will be put to the harmful content circulating on social media.
This is the wish of the common people and of us, the intellectuals!
May the unity and brotherhood of the Turkic peoples and states be eternal!
