Hurjet is going to be nice 4+ gen jet :) Watch out Gripen NG, you got competition on the way !

Hurjet is a trainer jet right, much like Hurkus ? Or did it get upgraded to more ?

Also guys, no need to point fingers at trustworthiness please. We all know that secrets get stole and what not, and you can find corrupt and bad ppl everywhere.

What matters are the steps taken and countermeasures such as wrong information being leaked timely and such.

The Hurjet will definitly be weaponized if we take current trends into accounts. So far nearly a lot of modern countries have some variant of a jet trainer aircraft that basically fills the roll of close air support/light fighter jet. The best example would be the Korean T-50 Golden Eagle. We probably will see an attack version of Hurjet sooner then we will see a flying MMU prototype.

My understanding is that Hurjet is jet trainer and also light combat role?

Hurkus is basic prop trainer...with some variants with CAS capability much like Tucano I think.

Among the main purposes of the Turboshaft Engine Development Project (TEDP) is the establishment of a gas turbine engine design and the development of infrastructure and the knowledge to facilitate such a development process. Thus, the core technology of the TS1400 Engine shall also form the basis for the indigenous turbofan engine (in 8,500lbf to 9,500lbf thrust class) needed for the HURJET New Generation Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) & the Light Attack Aircraft Development Project, and it will be possible to develop the national aircraft engine when needed, upon any necessary technological additions to the capabilities gained under the TEDP.

If the Hurjet is still a single engine design, they'll need a 20,000 lbf turbofan at least. If Turkey is planning to develop that engine, then they can split the development cost with Pakistan because Pakistan could use such an engine for Project AZM.

According to last claims, we will use EJ200. TS1400 is a Turboshaft engine. You can not use it on Hurjet.
Answering the previous question of why Tai is not using ts1400 for Hurjet;
Hürjet needs an engine like f404(17700lbf thrust) or f414(22000lbf thrust) or ej200 (20700lbf thrust) that develops minimum ~18000lbf . But ideally ~21000lbf like the ej200. With an engine like f404 it will be an ideal trainer. But if TAI want a light close/attack craft then an engine like ej200 or f414 is more suitable.
ts 1400 is a radial flow turboshaft engine. You can not even convert this engine to a turbofan if you wanted to. Hurjet needs an axial flow turbofan engine to power it. Besides the engine that would power Hurjet is much bigger In size as well as power.
During the last interview Mr Demir gave , when confronted with the question that ej200 was the chosen engine for Hurjet, he did not deny it. So they must have received the twin engine optimised version of the ej200’s for the prototypes.

There is a saying that best fighter aircraft is the one you can afford to operate regularly

MMU will be an very expensive aircraft, especially at initial production. Possible partners to MMU will not be able to invest large sum to the program. Funding of MMU depends on Turkish economy.

I wish there was a program with Pakistan etc. to co-develop a cost-effective 4th+ gen multi role fighter as a stop gap for our current aging fleet.

Could that be something Ukraine could be interested in? They said a couple times that they are talking to international partners about cooperation.

Ukraine is interested in JF-17 to modernize its air force.

JF-17 is a light multi-role fighter and a perfect replacement for older soviet era aircraft. I can even see Turkey being interested in JF-17 for internal operations, if Hurjet were to get delayed etc.

Hurjet project should had been a medium multi-role combat aircraft (MRCA) not a trainer-light attack jet. It should had been a much less risk approach toward TFX (Turkish Fighter) project.

Pakistan would be interested in a medium MRCA, and some other friendly countries.

The world is moving towards eVTOLs. This project will not do any good other then teaching students how to build useless planes. They should have started something that is innovative and will be up to date going forward. Another project being made for the sake of having done. They should try to build one of the Teknofest helicopter challenge entries for example. Or one of the flying car entries. Both of these schools have entries in the challenge. Or build some other innovative plane.

You need to start from basics than go up from there. Top goal of this project is education. Its good to see TAI funding an project like this, because its a very good real experience for the students. This is a good start for the future projects, national institutions or even companies might become much more friendly towards funding such projects.

ODTÜ has a VTOL drone competition being funded by Boeing, why not TAI or other national institutions/companies?

We need to change our education system, work culture, whole attitude etc. If you want innovative projects.

No way. Ukraine gradually will use NATO standards and aircrafts.

Ukrainian officials interested in JF-17 Block 3 because its cost effective and being able to integrate Ukrainian weapons.

Western aircraft is very expensive.

Ukraine needs aircraft with advanced electronics. For contrast, Bulgaria paid $1.3 billion just for 8 F16s Block 70s. Okay, lets say Ukraine bought older used F16s.

That does not include munitions.

Also what if U.S. refuses to sell better variants of munitions. No AIM120C7 for Ukraine. Oh by the way like 100 AIM120 missiles with missile launcher rail cost like $300 million dollars.

That does not include money for modernization of military airbases in order to be operate F-16s and NATO standards. Infrastructure? Money for pilot training? Money for ECM suites, advanced electronics, sensors?

Ukrainian defense budget is $4.7 billion. JF-17 is one of the best contender for rebuilding the UAF.

These schools have been there forever but TAI/Temel Kotil wants more engineers for his projects that he wanted to be good to schools supporting their work but the schools should have come up with innovative ideas.

Innonative ideas are good. The problem is how practical will it be??

Also costs, maintence you name it especially a new design.

In Turkey, doesn’t vocational school give access to universities ? e.g. Electrician is 5 year education here in Denmark, but then you have access to study engineering within your field of expertise. Sometimes you need to study a course or more to get necessary qualifications.

Ukraine may be the new buyer of JF-17 Block 3, a modernized version of the JF-17 fighter jet jointly developed by China and Pakistan. In March, a delegation from the Ukrainian Air Force (UAF) visited the Pakistani Aviation Complex Kamra. The UAF met with Saab in 2014 to buy fighter jets, but no conclusions were reached. Kiev, which is considering the F-16, may have changed its direction due to budget constraints. Speaking to Defenseworld.net, a source stated that JF-17 Block 3 can be purchased for UAF.

The visit could have something to do with Pak- Ukraine cooperation in the field of missile development. In 2018, Ukraine’s arms development and export agency, UkrOboronProm and Pakistan agreed to discuss “terms and conditions for launching joint Ukrainian-Pakistani production of precision rockets of different classes,”

I that case, it can't use RD-93. It has to use the WS-13 and I don't think China is going to be eager to provide that engine and anger Russia.
