Land Version of Atmaca, Levent Close Air Defense System, Laçin and Laser Guided Mini Missile
16 August 2021
IDEF'21 International Defense Industry Fair will start tomorrow (August 17) at Istanbul TUYAP Fair and Congress Center.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will also attend the opening.
Chairman of the Board Prof. Dr. Faruk Yiğit and General Manager Murat Iki met with members of the press for breakfast in Istanbul.
Roketsan General Manager Murat Iki announced that they have developed a land version of the anti-ship cruise missile Atmaca, which includes an infrared seeker head, unlike the sea version.
Murat Second said, “And hopefully, we will bring this seeker head to our armed forces the ability to engage ground targets, again without being caught by radar systems.” said.
The system will be exhibited for the first time at IDEF'21.
Roketsan General Manager Murat Second stated that another new product they will exhibit for the first time at the fair is the Levent Near Air Defense System.
Noting that Levent was produced on the basis of the Sungur portable air defense missile, second said:
“There will be two versions of Levent. In its first version, it will destroy its targets using only the electro-optics and radars on the ship. In its second version, it will gain the ability to engage with its own independent radar and electro-optic systems. At the same time, we will change the range of the existing Sungur missile. I hope we will add technologies whose range will be extended and supported by RF receivers, which can follow the target more closely.”
According to the information given by the second, AKYA Heavy Torpedo and Light Class Torpedo ORKA are among the products that will be exhibited for the first time at the fair.
Murat Iki said the following on the subject:
“AKYA will actually be the main weapon of our submarines. AKYA's successful shootings still continue. Hopefully, we will deliver it to our armed forces at the end of this year. AKYA GÜR was launched from our submarine for the first time and its tests are still continuing in the Sea of Marmara. Again, our light class torpedo, the ORKA Torpedo, will be one of the products we will exhibit here. The difference of ORKA from AKYA is that it can be launched from air platforms and has the ability to engage submarines.”
Another new product and this product was developed for the air force:
Murat Second – General Manager of ROKETSAN
“If we look at the projects we have realized for our Air Force, it will be the Laçin weapon system that we will exhibit for the first time at IDEF. Laçin as you know, it is an advanced version of our halberd system. The halberd is a laser-guided munition. A kit that activates MK82 bombs and enables them to hit targets with laser guidance. He turned Laçin into a pilot-guided munition that could be maneuvered in any way in the air. Currently, they have been successfully fired in the F-16s of our air force. I hope we will exhibit them at IDEF. The main feature of Laçin is that the pilot has the ability to control the ammunition after the ammunition is separated. It is a system that allows ammunition to hit the target much more effectively with last-minute moves, especially in areas such as shelters, caves and passages. Hopefully, this will be an ammunition that will strengthen the strength of our Turkish Air Force.”
Among the products that Roketsan will exhibit for the first time at IDEF is the MAM-T missile with a weight of approximately 100 kg, which can be launched from AUAVs such as Akıncı and Aksungur.
The MAM-T is an ammunition with a point strike capability, especially targeting air defense systems, with a range of approximately 30 km.
According to the information given by the second, the first version of the MAM-T is laser-guided, but work is currently underway for more advanced versions.
The studies will be completed towards the end of the year and Roketsan will make the announcement regarding the improved MAM-T ammunition.
And another surprise from Roketsan; Laser Guided Mini Missile.
Roketsan General Manager Murat Iki gave the following information about the Laser Guided Mini Missile:
“Laser-guided mini-missile, 1 kilometer range, very small, mini-missiles. By launching these mini-missiles as a system over UAVs, again with laser guidance, we will provide our special forces and other elements of our armed forces with the ability to hit point targets, especially in residential area conflicts. Our missiles will be guided missiles and will have the ability to destroy any target from 1 km away. Roketsan developed this as a whole system; not just his missile.”
In the meeting, second answering the question of a member of the press about the state of space studies, said, “Actually, our work in space continues at full speed. Our ultimate goal, of course, is to quickly implement the microsatellite launch system, and with it, quickly acquire the ability to place our own satellite of up to 100 kg in an orbit close to 400 km." said.
