For all those of us that always very quick and casual to tar whole community of people (by religion, state or whatever) as something negative/toxic collectively... and divide our country that way....

.....hope they remember this son and his mother first....and reflect a little bit first.....his sacrifice warrants a small pause first at least certainly?

I have no words for this mother's emotions.... thank you to the President for breaking the protocol and for the support given to the mother by the young havildar lass accompanying her for this.

J&K SPO Bilal Ahmad Magray awarded Shaurya Chakra posthumously for showing indomitable courage in evacuating civilians & engaging terrorists despite being seriously injured during a counter-terror operation in Baramulla in 2019.

His mother Sara Begum received the award.

With Christmas around the corner, a dozen people gathered in Srinagar on Wednesday and offered prayers inside the 125-year-old St Luke’s Church — for the first time in over three decades.

With less than 1,000 Christians in the Kashmir Valley according to official estimates, St Luke's Church was shut down for prayers before the onset of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory governments, at the first ever ‘J&K Real Estate Conference’ held in Jammu on Monday, have decided to throw open local real estate for “second homes and summer homes” to all the citizens of the country, in a major push to attract investments from real estate bigwigs.
According to the official summit document, Jammu and Kashmir has become a promising yet untapped destination for the next wave of growth and prosperity. “Under the newly introduced Jammu and Kashmir Development Act, the term ‘being permanent resident of the State’ as a criterion has been ‘omitted’, paving the way for investors outside Jammu and Kashmir to invest in the Union Territory. As a result, any citizen of India can buy non-agriculture land in Jammu and Kashmir,” the document said.

Changes in land laws
The administration undertook a series of changes in the land laws in the past two months, including using private land for industrial purposes and converting agriculture land for developmental projects.

One-stop portal
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, speaking during the summit, said, “To facilitate transparent and accountable framework in the real estate sector, we have launched many portals — RERA portal, housing portal, integrated auction portal. Such initiatives will help both developers and home buyers as one-stop portal for all their needs.”

Mr. Sinha said there were people who did not want Jammu and Kashmir to develop at par with other parts of India. “They want industries without giving land for it and development without investments. But we will break all walls that will come in the way of Jammu and Kashmir,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri said a large-scale infrastructure development, denied to the people of Jammu and Kashmir earlier, was now possible. “By combining rich natural resources with external investment and technical expertise, the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir will now have access to a higher quality of life.”

39 MoUs signed
The Jammu and Kashmir government has signed 39 Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with the National Real Estate Development Council “to boost employment and per capita income”.

“The NAREDCO will train 10,000 workers in various skills of the construction industry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, carpentry and the likes,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

Srinagar will also host a ‘Real Estate Summit’ on May 23 in 2022. As per the government estimates, the projected indigenous housing demand in Jammu and Kashmir is 2.5 lakh dwelling units, out of which 30% is in urban areas.

Parties slam move
Reacting sharply to the real estate policy, Jammu and Kashmir regional parties, including the National Conference (NC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the J&K Apni Party alleged “bid to change Jammu and Kashmir’s demography.”

“Once again the true intentions of the government are brought to the fore. While offering to secure the land, jobs, domicile laws and identity of the people of Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir is being put up for sale. People of Jammu should beware, ‘investors will buy up land in Jammu long before Kashmir,” former Chief Minister and NC vice-president Omar Abdullah said.

Former Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said, “Jammu and Kashmir’s special status was illegally revoked to de-humanise, dispossess and disempower the only Muslim majority State in India. The Government of India’s brazen loot and sale of our resources show that the sole motive is to annihilate our identity and change the demography”.

J&K Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari said the effort that was aimed at a holistic development and job creation was welcome “but not at the cost of domicile laws that safeguard land and employment rights of its permanent residents”.

“The Apni Party wants to make it crystal clear that we will always resist any such proceedings that are against the domicile law,” he added.

A welcome move by GoI...this will help in pumping more investments, improving the economy thereby uplifting the lives of locals, employment opportunities and luring they away from joining terrorist groups, inflow of other demographics into the valley and diluting the hostility of certain locals in districts/towns bordering the LoC which'll help massively reduce pakistani influence as well

To be honest , the whole Kashmir econmy can multiply if they have good tourism infra and security . Hopefully the locals have learned the lesson that support to terrorism will only hurt them directly or indirectly , lastly Pakistan is not a reliable partner in their quest for such goals

A video of a resident from PoK is now going viral where he could be heard seeking help from PM Modi. The video has yet again exposed the series of Pakistan's atrocities in the region. In the two minute-long video, the man identified as Malik Wasim is seen highlighting how authorities in PoK's Muzaffarabad have forcibly evicted him from his house and let him and his children off on the streets in winter. He then goes on to say that the land originally belongs to non-Muslims and Sikhs and then seeks India's intervention in the matter. He has appealed to PM Modi for help. The video has since gone viral. Watch for more details.

An eye-opener for all Pakistan sympathisers, this is the story of Razia Bibi who was used and abandoned by Pakistan but accepted and rehabilitated by India. Born in the Bandipora region of Jammu & Kashmir in India, Razia Bibi was taken to Muzaffarabad in Pakistan at a young age. In 2008, Bibi was married to a Hizbul Mujahideen cadre terrorist. Their marriage was, however short-lived as the husband lost his life in a gunfight with the security forces alongside 4 other militants.

Narrating her story of misery, Razia Bibi, a mother of 3 toddlers, said, "After he passed away, we were given 30,000 and thereafter, 10,000-12,000 Pakistani rupees every month. It was a meagre amount with which I was only able to pay the rent. For other expenses, I had to sometimes turn to my neighbours and other times to my friends."

"It was scary, every day I lived in the fear if I would be left with any money to provide for my children the next day," Bibi further said, adding that after a few months even the 10,000-12,000 payment was stopped.

National flag was hoisted atop the historic Clock tower in Srinagar's Lal Chowk on Wednesday, 30 years after veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader Murli Manohar Joshi did it for the first time.

Social activists Sajid Yousuf Shah and Sahil Bashir Bhat along with dozens of supporters had organized the flag hoisting ceremony at Clock Tower, locally known as Ghanta Ghar, to mark the Republic Day.

The activist used a hydraulic crane elevator to install the national flag on top of the clock tower amidst rendition of the national anthem.

Young players from Kashmir Martial Arts Academy also participated in the function.

The participants danced to patriotic songs as hundreds of Police and paramilitary personnel stood guard around the clock tower.

Senior BJP leader had hoisted the national flag at Lal Chowk in 1992 at the peak of militancy in the valley.

Five terrorists were killed overnight in two separate operations by security forces in the Budgam and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Sunday. Kashmir’s inspector general of police Vijay Kumar said that the terrorists neutralised in the encounters were affiliated to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, both Pakistan-based terror outfits.

Kumar said that JeM commander Zahid Wani and a Pakistani terrorist were among the killed, calling it a big success for security forces. A total of 21 terrorists, including eight from Pakistan, have been killed in 11 encounters this month so far, he added.

Kashmir Zone Police informed on Saturday evening that an encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Naira area of Pulwama. A total of four terrorists were killed in the overnight operation in the south Kashmir's district. Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition recovered were recovered from the site, said police.
One terrorist affiliated to LeT was killed in a separate encounter that broke out in the Charar-i-Sharief area of central Kashmir's Budgam district on Saturday. Police said that incriminating materials including an AK 56 rifle were recovered from the site.
Earlier on Saturday, a 53-year-old policeman was shot dead by terrorists in South Kashmir’s Hassanpora Bijbhera. Some unidentified gunmen fired at head constable Ali Mohammad Ganie near his residence in Anantnag’s Bijbehara area. He was rushed to the hospital where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

"I strongly condemn the brutal killing of our J&K Police HC Ali Mohammad in Anantnag district by terrorists. His supreme sacrifice won't go in vain. The perpetrators of this barbaric act will be punished soon. My deepest condolences to the family of martyr," J&K L-G Manoj Sinha tweeted after the incident.
