Yes & no. This where I say they are being smart, technically its not easy to classify it as invation or some short. That fisherman militia is also part of the plan to intimidate without involving their military. CG arguably can be classify as civilian as well. Looking at those facts I hope our govt are prepare for it by involving expert in international law and geneve convention as precautionary measure. Whatever the case will be, the first one who fire the bullet most likely will take the blame (military stand point). But that wont be the case if "Civilian" shooting at each other (militia perhaps CG as well), hence the below news
China passed a law on Friday that for the first time explicitly allows its coast guard to fire on foreign vessels, a move that could make the contested waters around China more choppy.

Its getting interesting eh? Thats only the surface, the last rumour I have is US trying to station their troops in ASEAN. I have a feeling the lobby/diplomacy already in place from US Sec of Def tour in Singapore, Vietnam & Phillipines. This tour will pave a way for US Vice Pres who plan to visit the region in the next couple of months.
But one thing I know for sure, both US & China dont want the open war to happen, not in a million years. This is where ASEAN unity will be tested to balance their own region and this is when we need those Rafales & Frigates deal to happen fast
At this point I am sure we all understand why we suddenly have the urge to spend big on military procurement. It is comforting to know our govt aware of this situation and push hard to bring us into better position/standing
