Excerpts.

"The Defense Ministry and the working group team will study thoroughly the preliminary concept to produce a state defense strategic document as the outcome of synergy among defense stakeholders within the TNI, he stated.

Prabowo expressed optimism that the joint working group would continue to exist in future in order to maintain the already built synergy.

“The personnel may change, but our projection continues to run. We abandon the old thoughts that in 30 to 40 years’ time no war will happen in Indonesia,” he stated

The formulation of a strategic document is part of the efforts to improve a state defense blueprint in order to take precautionary measures against all sorts of threats and worst-case scenarios, he noted."

KFX has airframe that is suitable for development another 20-30 years
I second this.

It's not as if KF-21 design team and engineers hadn't considered for its expansion and further improvements in the future, including, but not limited to, developing it into a proper full stealth 5th gen fighter as well as unmanned 6th gen version.

Some of you may have forgotten that the F-16 itself was at first designed to be a lightweight day fighter even if it has radar. Now look what it has become today: a single engine, all-weather, 24-hours, multi-missions, deep strike and BVRAAM air combat capable jet fighter with all other bells and whistles that the original design team back then may have never even dreamed of.

I'm afraid that we're not going to have 5th gen jet either.

The US ain't gonna sell us the -35s, Su-57 is available for export but CAATSA will deter our resolve, checkmate won't be ready until even next decade and again remembering CAATSA. 👋

So we'll be likely stuck with 4.5 gen jet for quite some time. Doesn't matter if it's Rafale, Viper, EF2000, KF-21.

We could at best maximalize the air force potential by equipping them with the best missile we could buy and investment in ISR platform to increase situational awareness.

Other thing to consider is the streamlining of air force assests.

For Indonesia, I believe we should prioritize to build our air power in sufficient strenght to guard the whole of our airspace first rather than forcing ourselves to acquire and operate a few 5th gen stealth fighter in the next 10 year or so.

But it is also imperative to improve our radar network to close remaining gaps as well as acquiring AEW aircraft.

But again in the region, only first tier air force like Singapore RSAF and Australian RAAF has access to 5th gen jets, other country ranging from Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam etc do have the same problem with us. So at least we could be superior to Malaysia or Thailand that's good enough to achieve.

Thailand has expressed an interest to acquire F-35 recently.

We'll see how it goes with the US since Thailand is also quite friendly with China and have purchased numerous defense stuffs from there.

Anyway, being 'superior' to other ASEAN countries - at least in numbers - in regard to our air force's strength is actually a must, given that we have much more territory compared to them.

I won't be surprised at all if the US will allow Thailand to purchase F-35 citing whatever reasons they can come up with, CAATSA be damned.

spending $50 million for providing a design of indigenous F-35 variants, that either a country who are really desperate on getting such capabilty or just having too much money to spend, my assumption would be either one of the middle east countries or the formosa island settlers.

they have a good NCW portofolio, indeed they are far more ready to receive F-35 compared to us.

I'm more concerned with this, TBH.

Now that we have received some confirmations regarding our next fighter jets and aerial tankers saga, please make the next one about AEW aircraft.
