"Defense Acquisition and Program Administration (DAPA) showcased the KF-21 Boramae 001 ready for flight testing.

001 aircraft will reportedly conduct engine testing in February, taxiing test in March, and flight test on the 2nd week of June.

The test was originally scheduled for July but was moved ahead to June because protype assembly and flight preparations went smoothly.

Around 2,241 test sorties are expected to be conducted over the course of 4 years using 6 aircraft. 17 ROKAF test pilots and 10 ROKAF technicians were selected for this purpose.

Currently, 001 aircraft is said to be fully equipped for testing while 002 aircraft had its engines installed. 003-004 aircraft have completed airframe assembly and 005-006 are being assembled. 001-004 aircraft are single seat variant and 005-006 aircraft are tandem seat variants."

^^ The 004 should be the tandem seat variant based from recent pics. The number of prototypes are 6 units.

So in Layman's term?
In a clean configuration and full of fuel internally, who got more range?

F-35 will have more range, I go into more depth here:

Tandem seat is for prototype 4 and prototype 6. Indonesia will get prototype 5 inshaAllah.

With internal fuel only of course F35 has more range.
Bigger internal fuel with single larger engine (more fuel efficient).

Yah for every equivalent loading, it will.

As F-35 has the higher Fuel fraction and similar empty (initial) weight.

In the absolute realm (i.e fuel both to max fuel first)....F-35 has several tons of extra fuel....on similar starting empty weight and assumed similar basic aerodynamic envelopes.

raw max fuel capacity on hand (~ 8.3 ton vs 5.4 ton respectively)

So load very light initial payload on both (say just 2 sidewinders)...to get the first "combat range", F-35 will be higher.

Ferry range (fuel only) on internal fuel only, it would be higher too.

The details are in that analysis I put there.

When you add external fuel drop tanks etc (as I assume KF-21 is doing to get some of its max ranges right now), this changes.

But its internal fuel only ferry range will be less than F-35 with optimal subsonic speed picked for both.

We're talking about alternative weapon for sukhoi, right?
Or is it possible to put JDAM to Sukhoi with full russian avionics now?
no, but if there is the funds for those missile could be used to arm F-16s instead. I'm talking about the air force as a whole not Sukhoi fighters itself. Am sure the air force have its own calculations on what weapons it wants to buy given the available funds or the lack of it.

quantity is a quality of its own. And we're gonna expend lots of munitions in an offensive counter air mission.

Total number of prototypes being built for the program are 8 planes. 6 planes for flying prototype and 2 non flying prototypes ( test article for structure test )

The most logical one is buy a lot of AMRAAM, JDAM, Sidewinder, harpoon, and F16v.
(And a squadron of Eagle 2 IF possible)
