Cannot, pipe gas is not like selling palm oil.

2023 is just a year a way, all gas field usually already has customers even before they start do the drilling and not to consider pipe gas infrastructure and other thing that needs to be built. Gas market is tight at this time and will likely to continue having tight supply and high price due to the world transition to renewable energy and previous under investment in finding new gas fields by many energy companies ( cheap gas price that happen for quite long also has become the other reason before the gas price jump since early 2021 )

Singapore and Malaysia also has some tension recently, Malaysia refuse to export electricity to Singapore while Indonesia is eager to do that (Medco Energy) through solar panel put in a land in Riau province islands.

In his response to questions at the MoD's annual leaders' rally for 2022 on 20 January, Indonesian Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto told reporters that negotiations for the programme have been completed, and that the “contract” is now “awaiting activation”. He did not provide further details.

However, in response to queries, Janes was informed on 25 January by a source close to the Indonesian MoD that a preamble contract worth EUR5.8 billion (USD6.56 billion) was signed with Dassault Aviation on 7 June 2021.

The contract, which stipulates a delivery of 36 airframes to the Indonesian Air Force, is not yet active given the lack of clarity over funding. Janes also understands that Indonesia is in the process of seeking a foreign lender to fund this programme.

The Indonesian MoD has outlined an ambition to procure up to 36 Rafale airframes in a programme to fulfil the gap left by the retirement of its Northrop F-5E/F Tiger II fleet. The older aircraft type was formerly operated by the Indonesian Air Force's Aviation Squadron 14.

The requirement has grown especially pertinent given that Jakarta will no longer proceed with the agreement to procure Sukhoi Su-35 ‘Flanker-E' multirole combat aircraft from Russian arms export agency Rosoboronexport.

In pursuit of this ambition, Indonesian MoD officials have been in negotiations with Dassault Aviation over offset and financing arrangements since February 2021.

If Singapore uses Qatar gas than Singapore needs to prepare some land inside their tiny country for the storage. The transportation cost will increase the price. Let alone geopolitics consideration where conflict has potency to escalate in Middle East that could disturb the supply of energy, it is of course safer and cheaper to get gas from Sumatra through pipe.

That pipe and gas belong to Conoco Philips, and Conoco Philips just sell their Indonesian operation entirely to Medco Energy recently. They know Indonesia want to cut the gas to Singapore and use the gas domestically where the price is cap and much below current international price.

Medco is again lucky and uses their power in PDIP as Arifin Panigoro is elite PDIP leader. This I believe government will continue supplying gas to Singapore under Medco Energy with market price ( high price ), the revenue will benefit not only government but also our national company.

Sumatra just found huge gas in South Sumatra last year, so this I believe the gas supply for Sumatra is actually still sufficient for another 20 years.

Energy analysts have expected supply of fossil fuel will continue to be tight for years to come due to renewable transition program across the world that will make energy companies to diversify and spend less in their fossil fuel investment. We can see even Indonesian energy company like Pertamina, Medco and coal miners like Indika, Bumi Resources, and Adaro have try diversify to renewable one and other business ( like Alluminium industry (Adaro) and EV battery (Indika) and chemical (Bumi Resources/Bakrie Brothers).

To be honest ....Caatsa was blessing in disguise for us . Like it or not SU 35 export version was not relevant in today environment and challenges....
And some theatrical and dramas were a neccesity to soothe things up
