Perhaps it's the time for Indonesian Army to have specialized troops division for high terrain with mountaineering skills . Just like the Germans with its Gebirsjagger/Gebirgs-Division (1st Mountain Division) during WW2.

It should be highly skillful with though physical endurance for mountainous special warfare at high altitude terrain. It should also be a composite division whereas it has Infantry, Field Artillery, Army Aviation, Air Defense Artillery, Light Cavalry/Horsemen Cavalry, Logistic, etc.

Our mountain ranges across the archipelago are assets for our defense like the great wall of ancient China. It would be strongholds for any invasion. Be it as air defense complex, high altitude artillery, arsenal bunker, and/or guerilla operation base.

We can asking help from India to train our troops by its Mountain Army divisions. India has the largest mountain troops in the world in 12 divisions with hundreds of thousand-men strong. Remember their skirmishes incident with PLA across its high mountain border.

It is proven that the "daki serbu" short courses provided by our army only is not adequate to engage military operation in our own terraneous soil. Even a small group of badass bandit can bully our troops in Papua.

Well i had long time remind some people in any occasion but alas most of it came to deaf ear.

In the region, neighbor countries with Gurkha regiments elements on it should be model for our future Mountain units. Afterall Gurkha light infantry is the best in the world when we are talking about mountain warfare.

I know we can't recruit Gurkhas at large number to fight for us, but we can adopt their training regime, life style, let their veteran to be our combat instructor (you know there is foreign born soldier within our ranks) and trying to recruit some of Mountain folks in Indonesian archipelago to joint the troops, those indigenous Papuan mountain folks should be our Prime target for recruitment.

Remind me of Vietnam War Montagnard.

KOMCAD can use targeted recruitment. For example, coastal people that usually work as a fishermen will be used as our fishermen-militia etc.

I am curious why the vest and helmet color is black before and not match with DPM uniform, is there any mistake on procurement or is it TNI decision to made it black?

The answer is simply because black is just cheaper to procure in bulk than OD green/Ranger green.

Why stop at just the Indians? Considering a divisions worth of US Army soldiers were training here for 2 weeks, they should also send officers to train at Ft. Drum, NY (Home of the US Army's 10th Mountain Division).

Heard they bought some Sherpa directly from France and the supplier sent it to the Battalion which serve the mission in Africa directly
