Indonesia in talks with Naval Group for variant of Riachuelo-class submarine

Officials from Indonesia’s defence ministry are in discussions with a consortium led by French shipbuilder Naval Group for a possible order of the Riachuelo (Modified Scorpene)-class submarine, separate industry sources close to the talks have confirmed with Janes .

The discussion is the latest development in what has been a series of sporadic talks between Indonesian defence planners and Naval Group since 2016, when Jakarta first indicated its interest in the Scorpene 1000 vessel type for its naval requirements.

Due diligence specifically for the Riachuelo class began after a variant of the submarine type was suggested by Naval Group as being suitable for Indonesia’s requirements, said one of the industry sources.

Besides technical discussions, the talks with Naval Group and its consortium also touched upon financing options and opportunities for technology transfer agreements between French and Indonesian defence companies, the source added.

The Riachuelo class is a 1,800-tonne submarine type, four of which were ordered for the Brazilian Navy in 2009. The first-of-class was launched by Naval Group in December 2018, while the final boat is scheduled to enter the water in 2022.

The submarine has an overall length of 75 m, an overall beam of 6.2 m, and can accommodate a crew of 31, including six officers. It is capable of deploying F21 heavyweight torpedoes and MBDA Exocet SM39 Block 2 Mod 2 missiles via 533 mm tubes, and is capable of diving up to 350 m.

Oe oe, what's this ?
What kind of fighter that would be in our infentory ?

Is it just a bunch load of lobbying at anywhere ?

I mean, doest it fit with Airforce fighter posture ?

Oh, if its wrong place, i'd love to some one to tell me the ID Air Force thread.
This is a little less the case for the naval file (Scorpene submarines and Gowind corvettes) where the Indonesians are considering different options.

WTF... contradicting surprise News at the same time?!
So the battle now is between Deutschland vs Fraco huh??
U214 vs Scorpene
Typhoon vs Rafale

With "semua dapat semua senang motto", I think it'll be Typhoon and Scorpene.

From what I gather, the option for AIP is available, it just that Brazil choose not to equip their boats with it. Perhaps Naval Group put forward the Riachuelo due to similarity in climates between us and Brazil? Hopefully, they already address whatever it was that plaguing the RMN boats.

My conclusion is S-br can perform longer patrol. But without AIP its underwater endurance is pretty much the same as standard scorpene.

Florence Parly only mentioned Indonesia in terms of Rafale in the interview. If we're indeed very close in submarine deal then she'd have probably mentioned it as well.

I think it's still an open game in the submarine front until now.

After what is happened to our latest " lontong " hopely the next one get picked could also contributes to the advancement of our submarine building capability . I had enough with us get toyed around by foreigner for all this year.
Make no mistakes ... While in the latest incident most of the blames were fall solely from our side . I still get the vibe that we haven't received fully what we should have been .

like the news before, france need more time to discuss and arrange the agreement regarding the deal, but since Indonesia need to push the deal for rafale by the end of this year, so she only talk about rafale.

Regarding the sub. i am prety sure there will be announcement latter...first thing first lah

Sounds like they want to fight on all fronts, not just the frigates.
