What is TNI AL plan to do with US FMS? honestly, getting Arleigh Burke seems highly unlikely, the cost is way too high, and aren't we trying to avoid too much US stuff? Same case with Zumwalt, Ticonderoga wet dream

Also, the hull of the ship themselves aren't much of an issue, they are just platforms anyway, not something sensitive, and can be interchangeable most of the time (you can switch Arleigh class with Sejong class for the same effect). But the weapon and electronic systems onboard are the real deal, and we currently seek to standardize the European system (to avoid dealing with the US). I thought Type-31/ Iver hull would be our Destroyer platform, but apparently, they will be classified as Frigate too? So what is the most likely be the candidate for our Destroyer program?
Well Navy is already full with European food anyway, what's wrong with a little bit US spices?

The two US shipyard producing Burke's (HII and GDBIW) are currently busy and the logs are full.

  • DDG-120 (BIW) (launched, fitting out)
  • DDG-121 (HII) (finished, waiting for delivery)
  • DDG-122 (BIW) (under construction)
  • DDG-123 (HII) (launched, fitting out)
  • DDG-124 (BIW) (under construction)
  • DDG-125 (HII) (launched, fitting out)
  • DDG-126 (?)
  • DDG-127 (BIW) (under construction)
  • DDG-128 (HII) (under construction)
  • DDG-129 (HII) (under construction)
  • DDG-130 (BIW) (under construction)
  • DDG-131 (BIW) (under construction)

I don't think they have space in the dockyard for a hypothetical Indonesian order

So... TNI AL is satisfied with KRI Golok stealth?

What FAC will be ordered(up to 120 unit)? Those from Turkey, PAL KCR or Lundin Trimaran?

Positive thinking: They are aiming for the Zumwalt instead

We'll see after the NSM firing test. If the installation, adjustment and other necessary works to fit the missiles into the boat will go without problems, and the following live-firing test will be successful, I don't see any other reason why they won't be satisfied unless there are other issues beyond our knowledge.

Nobody knows for sure yet other than those in the higher rank, I suppose.

The Zumwalt production line has been terminated with only 3 hulls, the last hull DDG-1002 has been moved from BIW shipyard to HII last December waiting for further completion.

and this just came in.

according to this website, it's likely will be the last block buy of DDG-51 family before both the BIW and HII shipyard move on into the planned DDG-(X).

So yeah unlikely any Zumwalt or Burke for Indonesia.

I am focusing on it's stealth.
The only thing that KRI Golok can boast is its "stealth", if its just so-so then just go with the conventional monohull design like KCR-60.

Should check its RCS using variety of radar we have.

No Zumwalt or AB? Still can get the sewaco and put it on other platform.

U.S. Navy’s Unmanned Systems and Small Combatants, Frigate, and LCS Mission Modules

Rear Admiral Casey Moton, USN, Program Executive Officer for Unmanned Systems and Small Combatants said that the Constellation-class future frigate (FFG 62) and unmanned combat ships have accomplished significant milestones in 2021. FFG 62, or “Frigate” as RDML Moton called it, is the pinnacle program and of key importance to the Navy’s future surface fleet. Frigate requirements remain stable and controlled, and the U.S. Navy and industry partners in the next few months will do critical design reviews on Frigate. Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Philadelphia will be FFG 62’s land-based testing site for its future systems. Frigate will have a Baseline 10 Aegis combat system similar to DDG 51 Flight III destroyers. RDML Moton believes that Frigate can be a U.S. export ship if the Navy decides to choose to do so in the future.

the FFG-62 is basically a FREMM with US specific requirements such as the AN/SPY-6 replacing the AN/SPY-1D(v). Should Indonesia wanted to find naval solution from the US, the AN/SPY-6 should be on our wish list. It is reportedly 30x more sensitive in target discrimination than the AN/SPY-1D.

So basically the idea is to only get American jeroan but the body is from somewhere else. Though that still wouldn't make it a destroyer as the article said, it's basically FREMM Frigate with hamburger flavor.

MoD want destroyer? Just classify FREMM as destroyer, problem solved.

From Biden's perspective, as the Republicans seem love to attack him using China issue, he'd probably score some important political points back home if he managed to place US war machines in the air (F-15ID) and the sea (Arleigh Burke) as Indonesia's major force to defend against China. Something that Trump was unable to do.
