first I never denied the the KCR are such a letdown, but that doesn't mean we should 100% give up on the project, steady improvement of the basic design should be pursued, again it's part of learning curves of designing a ship.

basically trials and errors are normal, and even if it fails. It's still a progress.

FPB-57 (Luursen) and Mandau (S.Korea) are not designed by our naval engineers, KCR-60 is. So give em time,

this is achieved through evolutionary means spanning almost a century, and this is from a 1st world country. Consider Indonesia's lack of contribution in science and arts of warfare in general, we should not be that upset about KCR-60 performance.

That's why they need to import some technology from aboard, getting a sample of one best design aboard and Made study about it, getting the necessary knowledge and technical skill to further improve the local design. Not necessarily abandon them but to get the new technology it is.

Babcock Sells Frigate Design Licence to Indonesia​

Aerospace, defense and security company Babcock said it has secured the first export contract for its Arrowhead 140 (AH140) frigate through a design license agreement with PT PAL Indonesia (Persero), a state-owned enterprise that builds and maintains ships for military and commercial use from its facilities in Surabaya, Indonesia.

The deal comes two years since Babcock’s AH140 design was first announced as the preferred bidder for the UK Type 31 frigate program at DSEI 2019, with the contract confirmed in November of the same year.

The design license will enable PAL to build two Arrowhead 140 frigates in Indonesia with bespoke design modifications for the Indonesian Navy.

The agreement was signed at the Defense and Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2021 event in London, on board HMS Argyll, by David Lockwood CEO Babcock and Kaharuddin Djenod, CEO PAL. And was witnessed by the Defense Minister of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto and UK Defense Secretary, Rt Hon Ben Wallace MP.

Babcock has been working alongside the UK Government to promote the Arrowhead 140 Frigate into the global market with strong interest internationally. The company recently announced that it was one of the bidders down selected by the Polish Government to provide a potential design solution for the Polish Navy’s Miecznik (Swordfish) frigate program.

The baseline Arrowhead 140 design can be configured to meet a broad range of naval requirements and, with Babcock’s support PAL will now engineer the required modifications to configure the Arrowhead 140 for the Indonesian customer.

we should not be that upset about KCR-60 performance.
In fact you should be, it means back then they have failed to find the right partners to help through the design.
Come on mate there are like dozens of naval architecture design firms and another dozens of engineering firms hat particularly focuses on this matter and willing to assist for some financial gain. It means either they chose the wrong partners, or they ignored the facts pointed out by partners.

And what happens to the IH deal then, i think the magic number here is two ? License production will be somewhat similar to the what Japanese or Fincantieri's production in PT PAL's facilities, only given for a fixed amount through a golden platter of project management and i don't see any gain here. Couldn't Indonesia get assistance from Babcock for IH design which they have already agreed with OMT for the IP rights?
Why the tape has run back and started to play from years ago?

Actually for all the errors and downs of the KCR, we should continue with it. With continuous improvement over time.
Correct, but as experienced member here once said if our capability of Human Resource is adequate, meanwhile burecratic and bussiness management is chaotic AF.

Tho, not only reoganized and more capable HR need to design and build boats, fully reconstructed the company is mandatory as soon as possible.

Fast Attack Craft max speed at 28 Kn ? Geez older Iowa Class still can exceed 32 Kn.

If this Babcock design can't be configured as AAW, I hope 2 of our Fremm can be configured as AAW.

Kind of "nanggung" for me.
Put as many armament as Type 52D has and there we goes bump bump party. For consideration, Type 52D has full displacement of 7500 tonnes, packed with 24 x HQ 10 SR-SAM, and 64 Cell VLS filled with SAM and AShM.
Not to mention her fixed face radar also put this ship dangerous.


And again, weaponery debate for IDN Vrygate continue on !

I mean seriosly, IDNavy is in dire need to get state-of-the-art stuff to face on with the dragon claws.

Wish: Doubled the vls number to 32 for all 6 FREMM
I believe original Fremm has space for 32 cell Sylver VLS , tho only 16 vls installed.

Adding more vls didnt mean add more fang, moreover huge restructurize the ship will be main problem + if they need more space to put another VLS

Italian Frigates, English (Danish) Frigates and hopefully Japanese Frigates deal soon

Indonesia aim is to compete against Australia and China high end surface combatant warships assets
