It really boggles the mind why Turkey didn't offer to send any peacekeeping forces.

Hell, why didn't WE offer to send any peacekeeping forces? Azerbaijan literally signed new military cooperation agreements with Kazakhstan a couple of months ago.

They are asking for a reinforcement of the 1995 constitution while the ethnic Kazakhs are asking for a full return to the 1993 constitution. This is absolutely going to end in violence, possibly a Chechnya situation.

Now would be a really good time for the Turkic Council to prove it actually has a backbone.
Why the hell should Turkey or any other state send in soldiers when the Kazakh government specifically asked (!) for Russians to intervene?

This is not a second Ukraine scenario. All I hope is that these protests spill over to every single Central Asian country plus Azerbaijan. All of these so called 'internationally recognized governments' need to be thrown into the trash bin of history.

Russia demands Kazakhstan to recognize Crimea - media

The Russian Federation will send a "peacekeeping" mission to Kazakhstan if the country's authorities recognize the annexed Crimea as part of Russia, the media learned.

Russia has set a condition for Kazakhstan to send military countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to the country. It was reported by the Turkish edition Akit on Thursday, January 6.

The newspaper learned that according to the conditions of the Russian Federation, Astana should recognize the annexed Crimea as Russian territory.

In addition, according to Akit, Russia is demanding that the status of the second official language in Kazakhstan be returned to the Russian language, Russian military bases should be deployed on the country's territory, and autonomy for the Russian population of Kazakhstan should be granted.

Earlier it was reported that the CSTO would send peacekeepers to Kazakhstan. The peacekeeping forces will be sent "for a limited period of time to stabilize the situation in the country."

Clans and the Kremlin. Causes of events in Kazakhstan
Historically, Kazakhstan is divided by tribal character into three zhuzes. The West of Kazakhstan refers to the Younger Zhuz - this is an established definition, he really is like a stepson in relation to the Senior and Middle Zhuz. Nazarbayev is a representative of the clan that belongs to the Senior Zhuz. The further development of events will be largely determined by the behavior of the elders of these zhuzes. Decisions will hardly be made without their advice, Dubnov said.

The current president Tokayev also belongs to the Senior Zhuz, but from a different kind - the jalayyrs. But the clans of the Middle Zhuz and the Younger Zhuz lost their influence under Nazarbayev, although it is in the west of the country, the fiefdom of the “younger ones” that the main oil deposits are located, which means that wealth is concentrated. In short, there is no linear answer to the question “what happened in Kazakhstan”. Traditions must be added to economic and political reasons, and this is a weak point that most home-grown experts do not pay attention to, if they even know about it, ”says Ukrainian journalist Valeriy Kalnysh.

Leaderless

A protest without leaders can hardly count on anything serious. Someone should lead the action. All prominent Kazakh oppositionists are in exile.

For example, former Prime Minister Akezhan Kazhigeldin left the country back in 1997. Today, Kazhigeldin is addressing the people of Kazakhstan, in some regions they are demanding his return to the country. He is ready to use modern means of communication to represent the interests of the protesters. But while this is all in the project, the real leaders of the protest “on the ground” are not yet visible.

From economics to politics

Experts admit that the two-fold rise in prices for autogas at once has become a serious trigger for the Kazakhs. Political demands were always present in society, but they were harshly suppressed by the authorities.

“There have always been political demands, but under the conditions of the opposition rolled into the asphalt, the authorities managed to neutralize them. Now they are all on the surface again. True, while we do not see any serious political leadership among the protesters, and this is a great achievement for the authorities, they have no one to talk to yet. She can declare: “These are all rioters, looters, hooligans, they must be quickly pressed to the nail,” says Russian political scientist Arkady Dubnov, an expert on Asian countries.

The role of the Kremlin

According to Ukrainian political scientist Yevgeny Magda, during the protests, incumbent President Kasim-Zhomart Tokayev exchanged the removal of Nursultan Nazarbayev from power for a demonstration of increased loyalty to Russia due to the activation of the use of the CSTO. “The calculation is quite simple: the elimination of the Nazarbayev family will reduce social tension and satisfy the appetites of the entourage of the second president of Kazakhstan, because there is no need to seriously talk about changing the management model ... Unfortunately, Russia will soon receive opportunities to strengthen its positions in Kazakhstan and Central Asia as a whole ... The presence of the CSTO peacekeepers may drag on for an indefinite period, ”says Magda.

TEXT: SOPHIA BROVCHENKO, 6 January 2022, 21:02

Russia, Belarus, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan should transfer their troops to protest-ridden Kazakhstan.
The transfer of troops of the Collective Security Treaty Organization to Kazakhstan will be completed on January 7. CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas stated this, according to the Kazakh channel Khabar 24 on Thursday, January 6.

According to him, Russia, Belarus, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan should transfer their troops to protest-ridden Kazakhstan.

Note that the Armenian government has officially agreed on the dispatch of its military to Kazakhstan. The decision of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was published on the website of the Armenian government.

"Based on the statement of the President of Kazakhstan ... send the collective peacekeeping forces of the CSTO to stabilize and resolve the situation in this country," Pashinyan said.

The media clarify that Armenia intends to send about 70-90 of its military personnel to Kazakhstan.

Recall that CSTO peacekeepers have already been sent to Kazakhstan. In particular, Russian paratroopers are already in the country.

The media also learned that Russia demands that Kazakhstan recognize Crimea. The Russian Federation will send a "peacekeeping" mission to Kazakhstan if the country's authorities recognize the annexed Crimea as part of Russia, the media write.

I can understand if the people are fed up with the dictatorship, but this is all so convenient for the Russians.

Russian presence in the country will mean less independence and probably slow down a lot of the progress made in the Turkic Council.

This is the Armenians' comments on Kazakhstan… How can we talk about peace with the Armenians? We are not talking about Azerbaijanis and Turks, we are talking about another people living on the other side of the Caspian Sea, but they are still talking about shedding the blood of civilians, making them live the second Khojaly and raping Kazakh women and girls. @Ryder @Anastasius @UkroTurk

insane to see something like this in present days

Regarding this whole mess, Turkiye has to draw out one important lesson beside political one were pure history bond is not enough to be most important foreign actor in situations like this, on the other hand now more then ever is emerged need for strategic cargo planes and only viable option for that is enhancing partnership with Antonov from Ukraina, if you had 48hours capability to deploy couple of thousands FRT (fast response troops, maybe you would be called instead russians, this is something that should you consider to obtain in near future.

Ah, so you've finally become acquainted with the lovely Armenian diaspora of the Internet.

Charming bunch, aren't they? One of the reasons I am skeptical of the current rapprochement attempts by us and the Turkish government. Not opposed to them in principle but it's far too early. Armenians are still scheming to hit back and won't admit they were in the wrong.

Anyway, back to Kazakhstan...

Funny you should mention, there's a theory in Russia that Putin is not one person but like a dozen different ones that are used as front guy for the real people in power behind the scenes.

By my count, we should be on Putin #8 right now.
