If Turkey agrees to this you can say goodbye to any Turkish influence in the region. May as well hand over the entirety of Idlib and Afrin while you are at it.

When will officals have the gut to do something without Russian or US permission? Of course they hold air superiority but you cannot seriously expect Russia or USA to shoot down a Turkish jet. Its quite pathetic really. Russia can continuously bombard villages less than 5km away from Turkish soil and arm terrorist who kill Turkish police, yet Turkey cannot even control its own borders.........

Iam not saying that Turkey is weak; however, it is still too early for you guys to fight the Russians
It isnt an insult by any means
But just because the TSK has been progressing rapidly for the last 2 decades doesnt mean that it will reach the Russian level
Again, an airforce is still the most important factor in warfare between countries
A blitz of 30-40 SU-35s can make quick work of Turkish land forces
And Turkish AD are still under development and production; dont expect Hisar-A to solve all of your problems
If some concessions will be made in return to the expelling of Kurdish forces; then Iam all for it. Dont forget why you guys entered Syria in the first place
Turkey cant wait for its TSK to surpass Russia to expel the Kurds; time isnt in their favour and the rotten kurds are becoming more arrogant day by day and internal turkish politics may favour the kurds for another 5 years soon enough
My only concern is whether Russia will fullfill its obligations and its own part of the deal
Recently, US, EU, and Russia all have been appearing to not fullfilling its part of the deal

It seems that Russia doesnt want Turkey to take more territories and enter deeper into Syria.
I read some rumors that Assad is quite pissed at that, doesnt want Turkey to delve deeper and take more territories as his supporters need the land that is to be taken by Turkey. In fact, some of his supporters (including the YPG) stated that they wont be in his camp if such an operation did occur. Apparently, Assad told Russia he will respond and if he did, Russia will get involved (since they are allies etc) which Russia doesnt want (they want to maintain the staus quo). Thus, Russia is trying to take concessions from Turkey to please Assad, please themselves, save face, and have a reason to not interfere (which even Erdogan would prefer just like when the US stated that they wont help the YPG); which is by taking the M4 highway!
Erdogan and the Commanders of the TSK apparently dont wanna lose the M4 highway amd Russia wont back down as they need something of similar value to all the land that Turkey will take

Russia domestically has similar issues with Russians not understanding why they are in Syria as some other nations, like the US, have problems with citizens complaining about international military excursions. Russia desperately does not want to have to commit to Syria more than they already have because unlike, for example, Donbas, where they can feed Russian citizens propaganda about protecting fellow Russians from the evil NATO axis and get away with it, it's much less justifiable with Syria.

I suspect this is one of those cases where, if Turkey pushed hard enough, Russia will blink and back off. Granted, I am not a military strategist but it does seem like Syria is more of a weakpoint for Russia than they'd like to admit. I mean, the only reason they got involved in Syria to begin with was to protect their investments from the Soviet Union's time.

The terrorist group PKK's leadership in Qandil restricted the authority of the notorious ringleader of its Syrian wing YPG, Ferhat Abdi Şahin, over a leadership dispute, Habertürk daily reported. Şahin, also known as Mazloum Kobani and Şahin Cilo, is currently on Turkey's most-wanted list for orchestrating terrorist attacks in Turkey.

The report said that PKK leaders took the decision a year ago, as they were concerned about Şahin's "fame" and purported international relations network. It added that the decision came as a shock for the YPG and Şahin and held a meeting with United States officers to discuss the issue.

Mahmut Reş, who is known for his close relations with senior PKK terrorist leader Cemil Bayık, replaced Şahin for YPG terrorist-dominated SDF forces in Syria, the report noted. In September, Şahin said U.S. President Joe Biden had promised not to abandon the YPG/PKK in Syria like he did in Afghanistan. He told The Times that the head of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) Gen. Kenneth Frank McKenzie was sent by the White House to personally reassure him. Şahin had also noted that the U.S. officials highlighted that their Syria policy was completely different from their policies in Afghanistan and that they would never abandon them.

The terrorist ringleader had added that they were scared after the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and that he had held a meeting with the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Joey Hood. He said the U.S. immediately sent representatives to reassure them that they would not face a similar situation like in Afghanistan.

The U.S. primarily partnered with the YPG in northeastern Syria to fight Daesh. Turkey strongly opposes the YPG's presence in northern Syria and the formation of a terror corridor, which has been a major sticking point in strained Turkey-U.S. relations. Ankara has long objected to the U.S.' support of the YPG, a group that poses a threat to Turkey and terrorizes local people, destroying homes and forcing people to flee.

Consequently, from 2016, Turkey launched a trio of successful counterterrorism operations across its border in northern Syria: Euphrates Shield in 2016, Olive Branch in 2018 and Peace Spring in 2019. These operations all aimed to prevent the formation of a terror corridor and to enable the peaceful resettlement of residents. Ankara considers the YPG/PKK a grave national security threat. Nonetheless, the group was largely deployed by the U.S.-led anti-Daesh coalition under the pretext of fighting the terrorist group on the ground.

If you do nothing, they build their pkkistan. After they built it in Syria they try to connect it to Iraq pkkistan. After that Turkey will be turned into the international enemy and kurds will become the focus of liberation for the western imperial powers.

Just look at how the western media portrayed Turkey as the creators and financers of Isis, despite the fact that ISIS harmed the Turkish rebel side and it benefited Assad, Iran, Russia, the USA and the PKK. The only real geopolitical loser from the emergence of Isis was Turkey. Since Isis not only destroyed the syrian opposition, it internationally demonised and discredited them.

We are facing another Russian jet incident where its better to down it, then to do nothing.

Lets get moving, we can't keep sitting back and hoping for the best, because we know what they want. They want to balkanise the region.

Both USA and Russia refused to give green lights. I dont expect an operation. Though keeping the hearsays active, I support. This will cause defections in the YPG ranks.

Sadly it seems to be the case
It seems that both Russia and the US reached a shared consensus that they dont want Turkey to gain more territory in Syria
It is even reported that some YPG commanders asked Assad for help in exchange for power-sharing in the areas the Kurds control
Sadly, no matter how strong Turkey is, it cant fight USA, Russia, Assad, and YPG together

Not really us supporting the rebels was punishment for the assad regime for supporting terrorist elements against Turkey for decades.

Tit for tat. In the late 90s Turkish generals were gearing up for war against Syria while the politicians wanted to back down from it.

Our biggest problem was relying on the stupid rebels to finish off assad while beating around the bush for too long also allying with the stupid usa who betrayed us for the ypg terrorists then you have isis aholes appearing.

Lets not forget it was the assad regime that supported al qaeda in iraq and allowed fighters to cross into iraq from the Syrian border.

Putin and most of the Russian elite have their offspring settled in the US. Never really been any serious competition between the two since the Soviet Union fell or more specifically, since Stalin died. In the 90s it was even more obvious since the US was involved in rigging the elections in Yeltsin's favour and Putin came from the same clique that was home to Yeltsin.

Same reason I don't believe in Russia being a serious ally of China. China is viewed as serious competition and in the future, so will India (to Indian members, don't be fooled by the USA whispering sweet, sweet words of encouragement into your ears as they move you to soak up casualties against China. You are next on the chopping block).
