The last thing Syria needs or the world is another Urban battle that will cause destruction to a city that has slowly been brought back to life. Tel Rifaat, Manbij are good enough and actually serve our interests.

Though unless Assad acts or an incident between TR and YPG/PKK takes place its highly unlikely we'll see an operation. It would put Turkey in a bad spotlight e.g. (using the situation in Ukraine to enhance its interest) Additionally, with Turkey seeking mediation and closer cooperation within NATO and the West it would be more than a contradiction to start an offensive after its recent shift in policy to promote peace.

I suppose this is payment for being the only nation apart from Serbia to not sanction Russia or close its airspace. If Zelensky and Putin are not serious about having a meaningful set of negotiations in Turkey then I see no point in Turkey continuing its current mediator policy.

Inflation has already reached 61% and in non-official terms some say it has reached 142%. Russia wouldn't dare to cut exports of oil and gas to Turkey because it would only worsen their economic situation.

Better to negotiate an operation in Syria or threaten Russia with more direct support to Ukraine.
