Rapprochement between Türkiye and Syria would be a big blow to the US and their illegitimate love child the YPG/PKK.
Yes, Mr Assad is a bloody dictator who had bombed and killed his own people, but on the other hand we have the US who is blatantly financing, arming, supporting, and trying to whitewash a terrorist group which has been the cause of the death of many Turks.
Let's not forget also that we'd be making a deal with Russia in the first place whereas Mr Assad's position would be no different than a paper weight.

Assad going now is no good, he goes now and all that happens is that Isreal and America has won everything. Its best we secure northern syria and then we help assad secure the rest of the country. The iranians must stay away from nothern syria and Turkey will be happy to help them settle in southern syria.

We must rebuild Syria's army especially her air defence network to create pressure and leverage against Isreal/America.

We seen too much over the syrian civil war to pretend that america/isreal are not our regional enemies.

Syria should have been played the way Ukraine is being played. No one could corner us or exploit us over it.

Its been played in such a way where we can support the outcome we want "ukraine to win" while at the same time it doesnt matter which way it goes because Turkey didnt destroy her relations with Russia. The same should have happened in Syria, we went all in on the Syrian rebel side and got screwed by everyone over it.

Yes for the short to mid term that's the danger of leaving, right now its safer to be in it then outside of it. However, Turkey should be pursuing a long term strategy to decouple herself from it and more importantly the americans must notice it. The best way to avoid being mistreated is for the americans to tangibly see that we seriously could exit it.

Look at the Russia vs Ukraine war. I can guarantee you, if Russia didn't have any nukes, then NATO would be inside it long time ago.
So in short: A nation that has Nukes on ICBMs is a nation safe from invasion. Everything else is just noise.

Had Turkiye not joined NATO, i suspect it would have been certain we would have got nukes. You can't have the soviet union threatening to invade you and not obtain nukes, that would be negligence.
