From Havelsan Journal;
Equipped with Decision Support systems, ADVENT is built on a form of architecture that makes it easier for users to make quick and unerring decisions and offers distinct capabilities to use new weapons/sensors. Developed in the context of modularity that fits for various types of mission and platform, this version stands out as a system operating independently of any platform. The scalable open architecture allows it to be customized in line with the needs of surface, subsurface, and air platforms and land command control and operation centers.Since the inception of the project, ADVENT CMS has been intended to serve for air, subsurface, and surface platforms of the Turkish Naval Forces Command and the land forces in various sizes.
ADVENT CMS was rolled out in September 2019 as a combat management system for MILGEM corvettes, which are precious to the Turkish Naval Forces, and it has been successfully operated by TCG KINALIADA for over two years now. As part of the efforts to modernize Burak corvettes, TCG BEYKOZ corvette has been equipped with ADVENT CMS to serve as a modern and effective combat management system. In addition, TCG UFUK ( TVEG), which is a testing and training vessel, is another platform equipped with ADVENT CMS.
Through current contracts, ADVENT CMS has been designated as the combat management system of many surface platforms in various sizes for the Turkish Naval Forces Command. ADVENT CMS is set to be part of the domestic new shipbuilding and modernization projects including LHD (Amphibious Assault Ship), I-Class Frigate, Barbaros Class Frigate, Offshore Patrol Ship (ADKG), Replenishment-at-Sea and Combat Support Ship (DIMDEG) platforms and Ay / Preveze classes submarines.Pakistani and Ukrainian Navies have decided to use ADVENT CMS in ADA class corvette projects, as ADVENT is also selected for Indonesian Navy FPB project as the combat management system.
In addition, maritime patrol aircrafts (ADVENT MARTI), and submarines (ADVENT MÜREN) adaptation activities continue, while the efforts are in place to upgrade the Surveillance Coordination Center (UU-GKM) software through ADVENT UFUK as it was developed as part of the Long-Horizon project. Since the inception of the project, ADVENT CMS has been intended to serve for air, subsurface, and surface platforms of the Turkish Naval Forces Command and the land forces in various sizes.
Offering solutions for certain needs such as smaller-scale fire control systems, tactical data link operators, and tactical picture compilers, the Mission Management System versions of ADVENT CMS can be rolled out on platforms such as patrol boats, helicopters, and unmanned vehicles.Fully Integrated Systems CMS offers capabilities to respond to any needs for the management of any weaponry/sensor system thanks to its multi-functional consoles and software infrastructure. Additionally, CMS offers all of crucial data forwarded from external systems such as platform kinematic data, track data, and meteorological data and so on. Making use of modern warfare capabilities to the full extent, ADVENT CMS is equipped with a fully-integrated and multi-tactical data link capability. Tactical Data Link systems can be operated through ADVENT CMS without requiring any additional software and hardware. The fully-integrated management system can also be utilized for gunfire control, G/M fire control, radar, electronic support, and optical systems equipped with their own console or control unit. The full integration of all suitable combat management units to CMS and the use of its functions without the need for any additional console/hardware are expected to reduce integration costs and time.
Network-Enabled Capability
ADVENT CMS offers highly advanced NE capabilities for the Naval Forces as one of the leading combat management systems. These capabilities are intended to
• raise the collective awareness at operational area,
• increase the command agility,
• boost the operational momentum,
• make the striking force more effective,
• establish self-synchronization,
and strengthen the Naval Forces in theaters of operation. The Network-Enabled capabilities of ADVENT CMS boost the effectiveness and importance of platforms the number of which with ADVENT CMS will increase, and this will raise the operational power of the Naval Forces to higher levels. Thus, the use of ADVENT CMS is intended to be expanded in a way to include air, surface and subsurface platforms, and land units.
ADVENT and Unmanned Vehicles
Originally developed for reconnaissance and intelligence, UAVs are now deployed for many missions including assaults. With a wide array of capabilities, UAVs have become more adaptable and effective to execute main missions such as intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and maritime security, as well as others including prevention of human trafficking by sea, search and rescue activities, and relay for communications.
UAVs entail a constant flow of accurate data to contribute to a mission success and boost its efficacy. This may include a wide range of data sets such as area, meteorological, and track data, and positional data of allies and adversaries, and the range of their radar and weapons. This also serves the purpose of making operational plans for UAVs, assigning targets and missions in the most effective way possible, establishing coordination among a swarm of UAVs, and updating mission priorities and operational limitations depending on changing situations.ADVENT CMS is currently capable of collecting, processing, and transferring any data required by UAVs. In the similar vein, ADVENT CMS offers a great deal of planning and control capabilities to assist UAV operations. The integration of UAV Ground Control Stations into ADVENT CMS will make the operational gains much more effective.
Future Efforts for ADVENT CMS
ADVENT CMS keeps being upgraded and improved in line with changes in response to latest technological developments and operational needs. Such innovations and developments are built on a plan and managed as per a program depending on the strategic roadmap adopted.
In the medium and long term, it is intended to
• boost the interoperability of CMSs based on Network-Enabled Capabilities,
• make use of artificial intelligence,
• improve the autonomous mode of operations,
• take on learning capabilities,
• constantly improve the data storage and processing capacity and performance,
• engage in displaying efforts to boost the perception,
• and introduce new functions in line with the ever-changing operational needs.
ADVENT CMS will achieve the goals set in the strategic roadmap under the leadership of the Turkish Naval Forces Command and the innovative and pioneering technologies of HAVELSAN, and continue to serve as an indispensable and sole combat management system at the disposal of the Naval Forces.
