Just in, Romania cancelled their 4 Gowind class corvette purchase which was signed in 2019, which was fraught with issues. Damen also didn't work before this. Freedom Class and the Ingalls' NSC based design are what's left. 7 years later, they have nothing to show for. They did join PESCO's European Patrol Corvette program, but that project is still many years away.

Ada Class would be a nice, easy to build and cheap option.

Didn't we participate in it ? I think STM?

Yup, wasn't one of the finalists, which were Gowind, Sigma and Abu Dhabi, based on Comandanti from Fincantieri. This 2019 tender is now cancelled altogether. They will probably go with Americans but Ada could also be interesting, times changed a lot in the last 4 years.

Hisar Class would serve a better purpose for them.

A G2G sale with ASFAT in the lead instead of STM with either Ada, Hisar or Istanbul being offered could be interesting. As said I don't think wind's blowing in that particular direction, but it's the best time to lobby.

Whether they go American, Turkish, Italian or Damen, I don't think they will start another lengthy tender and it will be a direct choice now.

Seems French deal was including the modernization of some old Romanian frigate as well which is well with in our capabilities as well in a package deal with Romania

Actually if anything cancelled ships seem closer in weapons and sensors to Istif class.
Tonnage wise it is close. Sensor wise Hisar goes better with IRST. Replacing Mar-D with a better AESA radar would bring it to front if the other offers had old school PESA.

The only lacking part would be SAM, for that we may adopt Albatros / MICA on Hisar class at preserved spot.

But there is no way they would pick a Turkish product / platform. They firstly need credit, secondly Damen has a great influence in Romania (hence a shipyard). Offers better offset (construction of some other orders at Romanian shipyard).

STM does G2G (through SSB) as well. But i was under impression that they might prefer to choose a low-cost, multi-purpose platform. Or Ukranine's Ada class would suit them perfectly.

Damen has quitted JV with state owned Mangalia shipyard in Romania. That leaves Fincantieri/Germany as the logical options and US as illogical one. Also a great oppurtinity for ASFAT / TAIS / Dearsan but doubting if Romania would be interested in cooperating with TR.

Follow-on Istanbul-class frigates,İzmir, İzmit, and Içel, will feature additional vertical launching systems (VLSs), a TAIS Shipyards official confirmed to Janes.

Speaking at the IDEF 2023 exhibition in Istanbul, the official, however, declined to comment further on how many additional VLS cells the three frigates would be equipped with.

Relevant part

Edit: Because this post is still getting attention, this news was refuted. They will all have 16 VLS as far as we know.

They mean extra VLS per ship other than the 16 ? Or MIDLAS contract for the rest of I-class ?

More VLS for remaining Istif class, was this mentioned anywhere else?

16+8 or 16+16 MIDLAS ? @Anmdt bro having an info about this ? It seems Atmacas which will be launched vertically, will be functional on these ships. Instead of maybe 16x conventional Atmacas, maybe 8 MIDLAS VLS will be integrated in this location. By this way, it will be possible to integrate not only Atmaca VLS but also Hisar-D Blk1/2 in accordance to changing mission requirements.
8x Atmaca + 8x Atmaca VLS or 32 Hisar-D Blk2 + 32Cell MIDLAS VLS

There are 11 Yıldız, Kılıç I/II class Fast Attack, missile corvettes/boats, at least Kılıç-II (aka Tufan class) ships, will be in service for a long time. Also the four Barbaros-class frigates in the main combatant fleet, which MLU activities are about to be completed, will also serve for many years. I estimate that these are 10 of the 11 ships mentioned. Ships with indigenous design will already have this capability by birth. The argument on which this estimate is based is that we need to replace the other missile boats, also Yavuz and Gabya class frigates with indigenous platforms, as quickly as possible.

I just had a quick peek at wiki for Romanian airforce.

As I seemed to recall something about their airforce. They're trying to join the F35 program, and they seem to operate F16 (2nd hand) until 2000's they had Sovjet tech.

I wouldn't be surprised if the US gets the contract for those vessel in return for F-16 block 70's or F-16's Block V.

Germany doesn't have anything to offer in that regard.

No matter how much I would love to see Türkiye get a foot in, Romania would have to look at the immediate picture and problem.

USA troops in Romania are currently stationed at three military bases: Mihail Kogalniceanu, Deveselu, and Campia Turzi. Deveselu is a NATO base hosting the United States Navy Aegis Ashore BMDS. Romania is one of the frontline countries in the US' east europe strategies. In fact, it has similar risk perceptions to Poland and the Baltics.

I am doubting this, my information is clear as water on this fact; remaining 3 hulls will be identical with TCG İstanbul (Hence, completion of HAT was awaited for tender process). Could be a misunderstanding or miscommunication.

Could be referring to additions that aren't necessarily MIDLAS, something like Gökdemir somewhere else on deck
