I'm not inclined to believe it. With our economy in such bad shape, the government would definitely not keep it a secret considering the upcoming election.
It is the opposite
If Erdo announced such info, then the West will force the nations supplying Turkey with drilling equipments to stop such sales in order to hinder gas independence. Moreover, Russia wont just stay quietly and watch one of its biggest markets slip away; hell, Putin may even declare war on Turkey if that means Turkish gas aspirations are cancelled. Lets not forget that Russia's greatest leverage on Turkey is gas at the end of the day. If Turkey had its own gas, then Russia wont have any bargaining chip against Turkey

areas marked in red was discovered in 2012 and had gas deposits be enough to make Ukraine a net exporter. extraction was scheduled to start in late 2013. guess what happened then?

Euromaidan protests, thats whats happened.

not to mention the resistance Russia showed to the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline for DECADES!

Russia's modus operandi is
1)to make the West its b*tch by making sure that all the gas and oil they use will be coming from them.
2)subjugate the Central Asian states by providing their only exit out to the wider world in terms of hydrocarbon export.

Russia would do ANYTHING to make sure this scheme goes on. Even if that would mean directly butting heads with a NATO member state.

Announcing discoveries makes the opposite effect. Voters don't believe it because of their past experiences.

Petroleum found in Adana Çukurova

Oil was found as a result of 2 years of work in the "Çukurova 1 and Çukurova 2" research field affiliated to the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) in the Soysalı District of the Ceyhan district of Adana.

While it was learned that the oil was of high quality as a result of the researches, the studies in the field were expanded.

Other wells have been drilled

While the works continued at full speed in the areas with oil wells and on the roads, it was seen that the 'Mud-Pit' pool was also established.

Foreign researchers closed by saying "no oil"

On the other hand, it was learned that in the 1960s, foreign companies came and conducted research in the field and their wells were covered by saying, "There is no oil here."

After the 1998 Ceyhan Earthquake, it was claimed that research was carried out in the field and this time it was descended to a depth of 1,500 meters, and the well was closed by saying, "There is no oil here".

There is also high quality oil

In the last 2 years, it was learned that in the search carried out by the Turkish Petroleum Corporation in the region, oil was found at 1,350 meters.

It was learned that the oil coming out of the 'Çukurova 1' research field was of 'high' quality, and other wells were drilled on top of that.

Villagers are happy

It was seen that the work continued in the areas that İhlas News Agency viewed with a drone.

Isa Sezgin, 66, who has lived in the village since she was born, said, “While corn was being irrigated, in 1998, a black substance appeared in the water and it was seen that it spoiled the corn. Then the owner of the field takes the substance and it turns out to be oil. Now yield is obtained from 2 wells. 2-3 tankers of oil go from here daily. It is a very positive thing for this country. It would be beneficial for oil to come out of here.” he said.

“There is definitely oil here”

Explaining that he learned that 14 wells will be drilled in the village, Sezgin said, “The materials are brought here by trucks. It means something big is coming. In 1967, when I was a child, foreigners came here and opened a 20-30 meter well and said, "There is nothing here," and left. But in the end, our people found this oil. Surely there is oil here. The foreigner won't make you any money here. Here, Turkey's development means withdrawal of money holders. Whenever you are in need, a foreigner comes here and earns money with his money. You will remain half hungry and half full.” used the phrases.

The minister announced

On the other hand, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Fatih Dönmez, recently made a statement to a newspaper saying, "We will announce the oil discovery in Adana soon."

In addition, last April, an oil exploration license was granted to TPAO for a period of 5 years for the field with an area of 15,398 hectares in Adana.

These news read like they were written by an amateur. As if the companies were not interested in earning money and spend money on drilling just for fun. Always implying that there is this grand scheme of conspiracy against the country. I hate that mentality.

Things to consider:

1. Technology is more advanced now
2. Price for oil is way higher now, so smaller wells might be profitable and might not been back then
3. They had no luck.

It seems like oil reserves that are found in two places in Adana are big enough for extraction. The estimated value of the total reserve is 1 billion $.
I expect similar results from the recently found Manisa Salihli oil reserves.
I guess every bit helps.

Sounds like elections are nearing. But if Salihli turns out to be true my homies and family could get good paying jobs, which would be nice.

1 billion $ worth of oil reserves is nothing for Turkiye.

Its something, better than those small oil rigs and fields they have in Thrakia etc.
But I'll be honest I wont believe anything out of Erdogans mouth, as I said elections are coming and he's in a difficult spot.

At 694 million tons, Eskişehir Beylikova rare earth elements reserve is the second largest reserve after the Chinese rare earth element reserve of 800 million tons.
Turkiye will be a colossal player in the rare earth elements business. Pilot production will start this year and results will be evaluated for a year. After that construction of a big industrial facility will start. 10 out of 17 rare earth elements can be produced from the reserve. 570k tonnes of ore will be processed each year and 10k tonnes of rare earth element oxides will be produced from that. On top of that 250 tonnes of Torium, 72k tonnes of barite, and 70k tonnes of fluorite will be produced from the same ore.

There are other prospect areas like Burdur, Isparta/Sofular, Malatya/Kuluncak, Sivas, Kayseri/İncesu.

Vice President Fuat Oktay announced that 3 alternatives are being worked on for the delivery of Turkmenistan natural gas to Turkey and the studies are nearing the end.

Fuat Oktay said, "We are working on three alternatives: using the TANAP line over the Caspian, a SWAP agreement or a pipeline after ships and ships, and if we are lucky, we are close to the end." said

The cost of transporting gas from a longer distance must be born by the vendor country, meaning less profit for them. Their other option is selling gas to Russia at cheap prices which they do.

We're shipping Gas from (among other countries) Nigeria, so transportation wont be an issue. Also LNG prices are usually set on energy exchanges or pegged to oil prices.

BTW the recent discovery of 1 billion worth of oil reserves covers the needs of Turkiye for 12 days maybe 15 if we ration it well. Most of those reserves are known locations and closed in the past due to being not economically feasible to develop.

Is fracking not a viable method to extract these low volume oil reserve in a profitable manner? It seems that it had great success in the US.

The recently discovered reserve in Adana is not shale oil. It is a small shallow reservoir.
