I never understood the issue.

As usual us Turks are too fixated on the Ottomans and Ataturk.

I do believe we should move on. We shouldnt be fixated on the past. You cant carve a future while remaining fixated on the past.

They dont teach history fair in Turkiye. They focus more on the Ottoman Empire's fck ups than its successes.

If you learn a 600 year old empire and focus on its fck ups more than successes no wonder people are negative. Every empire in the end collapsed due to its fck ups. But in Australia we learn more about how successful the British were than its screw ups.

Roman Empire is a 1000 year old you cant compound it to oh look Christianity ruined the empire.

You teach both of its successes and its screw ups. Thats how you get a fair balance.

I grew up in Australia. My dad didn't put me into any Turkish schools here, you know why? Because they were owned by Gülen. You wanna know what happened after 2013? Some of those schools changed their names. Still the same teachers, still the same owners, still full Erdoğan supporters. Some students left, their parents said they regretted enrolling their children there. Didn't they know that these schools were owned by an Islamic cult? I don't think they cared, only thing that mattered after the fallout was whether they were more loyal to Erdoğan or FETÖ. Same shit if you ask me.

I will say that the jailing of Özdağ and the dismissal of the military staff has caused a lot of anger, I think there will be plenty of political discussion related to these events and their repercussions in the following weeks.
