Things have radically changed though since then.
In a good way. Technology allows to have control over what's going on. As long as you can control it more and diverse population means you can have your hand outside of your country. Which every capable nation have done. Look at the US, UK, France, Russia and many others, whey have been doing very well. The people you allow in the country is the bridge that will allow you to go overseas. Or you stay in your comfort zone for a while until you can not fit in anymore.

• China signed with Turkey, which has approved the Agreement on Extradition of Criminals. • The President of the Uyghur Congress said that it would create "a great panic" among Uyghurs who fled China and have not yet acquired Turkish citizenship. • This agreement has not yet been ratified by the Turkish Grand National Assembly.

Hopefully it is not passed. Why should Turkey emphasise its support for Palestinians but give zero-sh*t for
Uyghurs? ( Most likely due to currency swaps with China ).

'I asked for an appointment 57 times but did not'

Bolu's CHP Mayor Tanju Özcan requested an appointment from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan exactly 57 times for the High Speed Train line to pass through Bolu. Mayor Özcan said that he has not received any positive or negative feedback, only "We will call you".

This is just appalling tbh.

A statement by Akp's deputy which claims that Robert College was established to produce atheistic youth is on the social media agenda today. The real ironic situation here, when you talk with these people, mostly they try to make feel to you that they see themselves as the true Muslims or tolerant people in Turkey, even if they not say openly.

The main driving force that spreads disbelief is none other than such foolish and non-conscientious people who openly expose their intolerance or 'othering' while they have power and has responsibilities in the country's administration. The behaviors they put forward drive people away from what they 'claim' to be theirs. But stupidity and self-righteousness are so intertwined that you can't even tell them or they cant understand.

Was Selcuk Bayraktar not a student on Robert College? Seriously what did they expect when they appointed him to Deputy?

Some people from AKP feels so badly hurt that they couldn't get into Robert or Bogazici through casual admissions.
While the ones who is hardworking and smart never feels hurt by those existence of schools.
These people, speaking such about some schools actually can not even manage a small bakkal casually. They are in some position just for somebody's sake.

This is what happens when deputies don't have proper education. And these people are decides the norms, laws that effects our life.

Typical funds from taxes, lottery,alcohol-cigarette etc. a portion of it also submitted from state awarded contracts and under control of SSB and the right holder company.
Not related to Diyanet budget i presume.
I just refuse to believe diyanet spends all that 13 billion solely on its written duties. Did you know that imams dont even get paid from diyanets money? They are technically state officers and they get their salaries from the same place teachers, policemen etc are getting. I just checked and diyanet controls 270 of 2300 mosques in France, 900 of 2800 mosques in Germany, 146 of 475 in Netherlands, 70 of 300 in Belgium and over a dozen in US. It also sends imams to Sweden.

If we arent using any of these to form an espionage network and lobbying...

Diyanet is not useless, problem is in the head of old people. They think promoting more diyanet is going to work, but as several has pointed out. It’s pushing ppl away from diyanet.

Half of AKP looks and act like elemetary school education level, thats why their voter base ist mostly badly educated people, they speak a language that these people understand, everything else is too complicated for them after all.

Honestly in Australia where im from a lot of mosques are ran by Diyanet. If people want to close diyanet down for us Turks in the diaspora we will be losing a piece of ourselves.

Diyanet especially helps in keeping our community the Turkish community together. My Sudanese teacher once praised how Turks establish their mosques and keep a community together not to mention helping the Muslim community in turn.

Diyanet system is a successor to the Sheikh ul Islam system of the Ottoman Empire. Diyanet also helps combat religious extremism and also not allowing local mullahs have power.

Diyanet keeps a lot of religious crazies in check just like the Ottomans did. Ataturk did the right choice by establishing it.

It has been more about spreading the sunni faith and serving the government since these political islamists took over but yes, it was essentially a very useful establishment. Hopefully they are still fighting religious extremism and cults.
I am just glad that Turkish youth is shifting to atheism.

Turkish youth shifting to atheism is not good its bad.

What is the purpose in life if you dont believe in anything???

Our ancestors always saw religion as important part of their lives regardless of what religion it was like Islam and Tengrism.

So it didn't fail. It was and still is ready to be produced but a 'friend' became unreliable and decided to embargo Turkey. Any other company would suffer the same and would not find a suitable powerpack for the Altay. Don't blame it on BMC. Only 4 countries in the world have developed and produced a 1500hp engine suitable for MBT's. That is less than the amount of countries that have developed and produced a medium-thrust turbofan engine for a fighter-aircraft...

Otokar is owned by the Koc family.

The Koc family and Erdogan dont like each other. This what happens when partisan politics takeover or how one opposes the other that that they will work against each other.

The owner of bmc aka Ethem Sancak is close to Erdogan. Thats why it led to some to believe there was favouritism in the tender.

Yes, but that is not the discussion. The project didn't fail because of BMC, it was postponed because of an embargo which no Turkish company could circumvent, but to develop their own 1500hp MBT powerpack.

And Koc holding deserves it IMO. Just look at how they looked down upon the masses:

Who are these "greek or armenian elitist p*****"?

Koc family made their wealth by confiscating greek and armenian properties. Greeks and armenians along with the jews were the elites of the ottoman society.

As much as the Turkish elite can look down upon us at least they are not greeks or armenians as they right fully got kicked out for treason.
