Funny, or more miserable thing is even this non standard salary can't buy this car in Turkey:

Model (*4)DonanımFiyat (*1-2-3-8)
Polo 1.0 80 PS ManuelTrendline₺207.300,00İnceleyin
Polo 1.0 TSI 95 PS ManuelComfortline₺215.200,00İnceleyin
Polo 1.0 TSI 95 PS DSGComfortline₺217.100,00İnceleyin
Polo 1.0 TSI 95 PS DSGHighline₺315.500,00İnceleyin

Absolutely ridiculous, let me tell you why.

1619793262386.png

Switzerland doesnt really have a minimum wage but its considered to be somewhere between 3500 and 4000 CHF.
This car in Switzerland costs about 5-8 times the minimum wage while in Turkey it costs about 100 times the minimum wage on avarage.

There is a belief in Turkey that high taxes generate more income for the state but no thats completely off from truth, high taxes kill economic activity hence generate less income for the state in the long run.

Everybody sees Switzerland as a expensive country but its actually a tax paradise even compared to rest of the world yet the state still generates a shit ton of money just from taxes due to high economic acivity.
100% of 0 is still 0 after all.

Taxes on new cars:

Turkey: 71-206% (depends on engine size and value) or 400% if its a American car (holy shit )
Switzerland 4% (no matter which car and what value)

But yeah Europe is jelous of Turkish economy according to reis...

Too all tree huggers stop using phones and computers.

Also stop living in houses since you have to bring down trees to build it.

Environmentalists are the biggest hypocrites.

Problem is building roads when nobody is able to afford a car, its a 8 lane road, why are there no cars?

I've changed my mind after reading the debate on Turkish vs Arabic version of Qur'an. Going to vote one more time for RTE.
Oh no, pls dont.
So you change your political perspective according to a forum debate? Very weak mind you got there.

But cmon who are you even trying to fool here? You are the type of guy who would vote for Erdogan even if he admitted to all the crimes he did, you are a typical core Erdogan supporter, that famous 30%.

Türkiye is getting more otocratic and almost police state....

A controversial circular from the police: recording images is now forbidden

In the circular issued with the signature of Security General Director Mehmet Aktaş, it is stated that people who recorded the images or voices of the police during the demonstrations were blocked and a judicial action was taken against them.

Rapid Militarisation of police does not make a country a police state.

Why do you need a militarization in the first place? Are we gonna be like Iran?

Besides, one chopper doesnt make a police state but all the other things that happen in Turkey do, you cant even make a tweet without getting arrested if the goverment thinks its something negative against it.
The constitutional rights of Turkish citizens are being violated on daily basis, thats the very definition of a police state...

Iran bs argument does not work.

If Tayyip is so paranoid about his rule and loyalty he would hire the best elite bodyguards that money can buy.

Turkey violations is far away from a police state. You dont even know what a police state.

Look at some examples in history and countries of today like China and Iran then come to me if Turkey is a police state.

Militarisation of Police is a global thing actually. Cops are actually being more trained to be like soldiers.

Turkey is just taking up a notch by arming some attack helicopters for the cops.

You are forgetting something terrorists are armed with heavy weapons that can easily destroy a cop.

Thats why terrorists always target cops because they are easier to kill than a soldier.

You will say what you said for 20 years, for another 10 years, but Turkey will not be an Iran. After all, you'll be driving people crazy for nothing.

Council of Europe issues media freedom alert over UK government blacklisting of investigative journalists 06 September 2020

The UK government has been formally warned for threatening press freedom after it blacklisted a group of investigative journalists and denied them access to information.

The Council of Europe issued the Level 2 "media freedom alert" after Ministry of Defence press officers refused to deal with Declassified UK, a website focusing on foreign and defence policy stories.

The intervention by the Council ironically comes as Boris Johnson and his ministers condemned environmental activists as a threat to press freedom for blockading printing plants in protest at newspapers' climate coverage.

Britain has been a founding member of the Council of Europe since it was set up in 1949 under the Treaty of London. It monitors human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Europe and is responsible for overseeing the European Convention of Human Rights.

The organisation's media freedom alert system catalogues threats to media freedom such as attacks on the physical safety of journalists, harassment and intimidation, detention and imprisonment.

The new alert, issued by the organisation on Friday, was classified by the watchdog as an "act having a chilling effect on media freedom" and put under the "state" category – because the British state was the source of the threat.

The UK joins Russia, which had an alert issued this week after an blogger critical of the government was hospitalised by two unknown assailants, and Turkey, where a former TV presenter was arrested and charged with membership of a terrorist organisation.

The International Press Institute (IPI) wrote to the Ministry of Defence on Friday urging the government to rethink its crackdown said the move appeared to be taken because of the outlet's critical editor line.

"IPI is concerned this sudden decision to exclude Declassified UK from a MoD comment, and the subsequent lack of communication on the matter, appears to have been taken in retaliation for its previous critical reporting and editorial stance on the UK armed forces," IPI’s Deputy Director Scott Griffen said.

"It goes without saying that the exclusion of a media publication by a government ministry due to its investigative reporting would undermine press freedom and set a worrying precedent for other journalists whose job it is to report in the public interest on the British military. Criticism should be no reason to discriminate against a media publication.

"In contrast, tough journalism by outlets such as Declassified UK on matters such as the UK’s foreign and military affairs, uncomfortable though it often may be for those in power, is crucial for a transparent and functioning democracy."

The Council of Europe's media freedom alert says the journalist at Declassified UK was denied a response to a question about the war in Yemen after being asked “What sort of angle have you taken on the war in Yemen?” and then later told by a press officer at the department that “we no longer deal with your publication”.

The last time the UK was issued with a state-focused media freedom alert was in May this year, when an OpenDemocracy journalists was banned from asking questions as the UK government's daily coronavirus press conference.

US envoy voices concern over religious freedom in France

DEC 08, 2020

The U.S. envoy on religious freedom on Tuesday voiced concern about France, warning aganist "heavy-handed" measures as President Emmanuel Macron targets Islam.

"I am concerned, obviously, for what's happening in France," Ambassador Sam Brownback told reporters when asked about Macron's initiative.

"When you get heavy-handed, the situation can get worse," he said, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

France is home to the largest population of Muslims in Europe, and Islam is the second-largest religion practiced in the country after Catholicism.

The international community was shocked by the knifing of two people outside the former offices of Charlie Hebdo in September, the beheading of Samuel Paty on Oct. 16, and the brutal killing of three people inside Nice's Notre Dame Basilica on Oct. 29.

The attacks prompted French officials to look for a scapegoat, and the Muslim community was targeted.

While the country fervently defends the anti-Muslim provocative caricatures under the pretense of free speech, numerous agencies, newspapers and magazines have been removing articles and changing their content on the orders of the French government. Since the beginning of November, the French government has managed to muscle their way in and affect the actions of four prominent news outlets, including the Financial Times, Politico, Le Monde and the Associated Press (AP).

Last month, Macron said he will not prevent the publishing of the cartoons under the pretext of freedom of speech, sparking outrage among the Muslim world. While French Muslims have accused him of trying to repress their religion and legitimizing Islamophobia, several Muslim-majority countries, including Turkey and Pakistan, have also condemned Macron's attitude toward Muslims and Islam, with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan saying the French leader needs a "mental health check."

Multiple protests and boycotts against French products have taken place all around the world upon Macron's anti-Muslim remarks.

No one can teach us a lesson in freedom, democracy. In the UK, you can't think of a case like the disclosure of MİT trucks there. A journalist who spies there is jailed. No one objects. That's how free we are. So don't tell us stories.

Journalists are not free in France. They can't criticize the government's policies. But no one tells us how disgraced France is. Get out of the cave where you live and see what the Earth is like.
