My perspective residing in America might not completely be relevant to Turkey but that's not at all true. Immigration is beneficial in small to medium doses, once the floodgates are open with no restriction, there will be conflict at some point. I immigrated legally, having proven myself capable of integrating and assimilating into the wider society and culture and contributing. But there are those who have no desire to do that, to contribute to wider society or even worse, those who snuck in illegally and they absolutely need to be removed before they ruin said society for everyone else.
Mass migration is used as a weapon of war.
You know how the Russians sapped the Ottomans ability to fight its by causing massive refugee migrations by uprooting Muslims living there not to mention you also had Hungarian and Polish refugees coming in.
Ottomans until they collapsed faced massive refugee crisis that continued well into the Turkish independance war.
I mean Ataturk lost his home city of Selanik. These refugee crisis have also caused trauma which Turkey has not recovered from.
Most Turks including me have a grandfather or a grandmother that had to leave their lands due to wars and oppression.
You also have many non Turk Muslims that had to leave and come to Turkey itself.
Todays refugee crisis is sapping Turkey's ability because there is too many people mixed in with high unemployment and a shit economy along with inflation. Refugees from Syria and Afghanistan are also competing for jobs.
What makes it worse is a lot of refugees want to leave but are being kept against their will. Erdogan was foolish to accept the EU money deal.
