Additive Manufacturing Technologies​


Additive manufacturing has introduced significant changes in industry with functional certain part production in a single process through different manufacturing techniques. In order to contribute this phenomenon, TEI has prioritized the adaptation of additive manufacturing in aerospace industry as well as the advantages being offered owing to exclusive infrastructure with various materials, simulation tools, manufacturing technologies, post-processing techniques and material characterization capabilities.

TEI has accomplished exceptional experiences due to innovative approaches to utilize the full potential of additive manufacturing offering the effective solution for sophisticated components from design of part to quality management. It is of great significance that TEI has outstanding know-how with focus on aerospace industry accumulated for long time. In accordance with development of additive manufacturing, TEI has concentrated on all aspects of additive manufacturing technology including design optimization, process and material development.

In this scope, design optimization of complicated parts and process modelling through advanced simulation tools are proficiently conducted by TEI. Moreover, TEI has performed extensive effort on material and process development in order to accomplish excellent mechanical properties required. Furthermore, TEI has advanced material laboratory infrastructure accredited by NADCAP, achieving the detailed analysis of material and surface characterization, laser scanning, non-destructive quality methods and process validation.

In this Radio Inteview, TEI's CEO Dr Mahmut Faruk Akşit shares some of the specs of TS1400 and design decisions

Imho, Most Important design design is, TEI hasnt opted to use latest generation Materials in the TS1400, Instead TEI opted for Materials which can be purchase from multple source, So Our Suply chain is secure against embargos. As a Result of this decison Engine is 20-30 kg heavier than its forign counterpart (probably LTHTEC engine) but It also has higher power.

TS1400 vs LHTEC T800 from the interview
1410 - 1292 shp Sustained performance
1470 - 1373 shp lift off performance
1700+ - 1637 shp Emergency Lift off performance (probably 30 sec. Single engine power output)

Not really a surprise, it was said that engine would begin acceptance tests in early December which would last a month, and the month has passed. Next step integration and flight tests which will take around 7-9 months to complete.
So at this point it is safe to believe we will have our own engine in SOM and Atmaca in future units ?

So a this point it is safe to believe we will have our own engine in SOM and Atmaca in future units ?

Yeah, serial production of the jet engine is to begin in parallel with the integration and flight tests. Many SOM and Atmaca test videos coming our way this year :) I hope

If the foreign engine is 170 and your engine is 30kg heavier, then you are ~17.5% heavier. But you have 7% more power available. So that actually more than compensates it.
Important point here is the fuel consumption of the engine.
But according to published data the weight of the engine is 195 kg. This is 25kg more than LHTech 800 engine. This makes the Turkish engine 14.7% heavier. this we can live with.

Important point here is the fuel consumption of the engine.
But according to published data the weight of the engine is 195 kg. This is 25kg more than LHTech 800 engine. This makes the Turkish engine 14.7% heavier. this we can live with.
What actually matters is the P/W ratio of the whole vehicle. 25 kg will be added to 5000 kg which is a half percent while the power added to the system is 7%.

funny part those additional power will be able to lift 1 more TON payload...
You are saying this because you are comparing it to the Atak helicopter which is a high power to weight ratio helicopter made for high and hot working environment like eastern Turkey or highland Pakistan. For the T629 helicopter which is not meant for high density altitude the power to weight ratio afforded by the TS1400 engine will be well fitting.
