Do TEI plan to develop a turboprop version of the TS-1400 in the future ? This would greatly enhance the performance of UAV’s, and limit the dependence of foreign engines.
Radial compressor design of TS1400 may not be ideal for a turboprop as PT6 and some others are of axial compressor type. However material science aspects of that power level should apply to an axial compressor turboprop design as well. TEI should make a 1500 hp class turboprop and also should make a 3500 hp turboshaft and a similar power turboprop as well. I mean why not?

I'd be perfectly happy if they could just start serial production of PD222ST.

GE Marine has signed a license agreement with TEI. TEI become authorized in-country service provider for maintenance, repair and overhaul of GE's LM2500 marine gas turbines. TEI will be responsible for the marine gas turbines in countries Turkiye exported LM2500 engines with domestic warships.


TEI is also about to sign a contract for assembly and partial production of LM2500 & LM500. This is the first step with an extension for LM500.

I can understand why you suggest TEI to make 1500 HP class turboprop. It can integrate to AKINCI and Hürkuş. Also 3500 hp class turboshaft can use on T-929/T-925 but I can not think a suitable platform for 3500 hp class turboprop. Could you inform us to why you want 3500 hp turboprop?

Something like C 130? Just a guess I think it's around that power?

Actually because there will already be much of the groundworks done for a turboprop engine when a turboshaft is made and a turboprop can be made with a relatively small effort. Such an engine can be used to make propeller passenger planes, cargo planes, seaplanes and perhaps hovercraft too. I am actually unaware of the power levels of our existing turboprop planes but they should be around this ballpark.

This, among other things, is why GEs and TEIs ongoing partnership is still worth it.
Mentioning this because it was discussed a couple of pages back.

For our larger ships like the TF-2000 and carrier ships we probably need a deal with RR or an additional deal with GE. Optionally we make our own derived from TR Motor Özgün TF35k.

Would diesel rotary engines be generators for future electric MBT's?

Wankels wear out easily. You need to replace them once in a while. Also they burn motor oil.

Interesting people observing the test. Could TS1400 be converted to a jet engine for ANKA III and KE? If yes, how quickly and how powerful?
I'm not very knowledgeable about engines but I don't think an engine strong enough to fly these vehicles cannot be derived from the TS1400. Also, I'm not sure if a decent turbofan will come out of a civilian engine with a radial compressor, which is difficult to use in the military. Of course, it would be more correct to ask @Nilgiri .

1-2 years according to Prof. Dr. Mahmut F. Akşit. As he already said that the Goal is that they develop engine which will be used for Gokbey, Atack and Hurkus. I think they already working that TS1400 will be used in both configuration. Main prio is to finish with testing of TS1400 and then will see

Yup, clean sheet start is best for Turkish turbofan programs given the radial compressor here.

Radial compressors have sweetspot reasons at this size, but their disadvantages grow considerably if you want to scale up the engine. Both the investment in cross sectional area (per compression ratio ability) and the design needed to transfer this compressed air to the combustor (it is reverse flow combustor like PT-6 I believe, who's benefit again lies with this particular size range ). i.e Reverse flow plumbing and orientation wont work for turbofans (given the literal fan)....they are turboshaft/prop specific.

It probably didn't make sense to make a military engine in this class just to be able to sell 30 helicopters to Pakistan. That's why I think they preferred a radial compressor civillian engine.I also remember that Akşit said that they were working Radial on this engine.
