When can Turkey expect a 1280x720/1024 MWIR FPA ready for testing and then serial production? He literally told we dont give a shit about embargoes and a product family is coming.
It depends. Resolution is important but so is pitch length. If you go for example 30μm process it will come out early without any issues but the overall die size will be bigger. A bigger die size means a bigger optic and a bigger system. We can see a 1280x7201024(15μm) die very soon if we scale up the current 640x512(15μm) die. We can put it on a 22" gimbal and it will fit quite well to Akıncı and Aksungur. With this, we can get crystal clear images from insane distances at this gimbal diameter. Once you master a process it is easier to come up with a product family. Aselsan will release an MCT product family in LW and MW. 1280*720 die will also fit on the existing CATS system but 1280x720 dies are overkill for the UAVs like TB2 (Wescam also offers 640x512 as standard and 1280*720 as optional for their MX-15). As a guesstimate, I would say late 2023 at the earliest for the production of a 22" 1280*720 FLIR. EOTS (Electro-Optical Targeting System) of the MMU will also use 1280*720/1024. There is also dual-band(MW+LW) products. When can Turkey expect a 1280x720/1024 MWIR FPA ready for testing and then serial production?
True. There is an ever-increasing market. This is why Aselsan started investing in big production facilities as early as 2016.There is a large market in Turkey for HD resolution thermal imagers. TB-2/3, Anka, Aksungur, Akinci, Mius, T-629, T929, Sungur on APC, ULAQ SIDA and perhaps upgraded versions for the Hisar family, naval IRST, targeting pods etc. + potential export market. This market could easily reach 1000 pcs or more, with a $1 billion market.
