They did F-16 serial production, so it is not that different territory for them.
I remember a few months ago, Dr Temel Kotil complaining that after F16 production run, Tusas did not keep the staff and the expertise of serial production in house and that these capabilities were allowed to disperse and lost.
So setting up a serial production line will be a new challenge for Tusas.
But looking at today’s achievement of this prototype and it’s high standard of quality, I have every confidence in Tusas that they will come out of this challenge with flying colours too.
Our main soft belly is the engine side. Even F110 engines would make this plane a force to be reckoned with. But to obtain full potential of the plane we need dry thrust levels of 24-26000lbf from each engine. F110 falls way short of this at 16600lbf level. So the development of the indigenous engine for this plane is vital.

If you want to see the damage TFX has caused on the other side, it is enough to read what goes through their minds. See what those who have some dirty revisionist plans on Turkiye think while we are celebrating our engineering marvel and freedom steps.

We will open a section on defensehub where we will collect comments and video translations. From there we will make sure that all our members can see what the Greeks think about our developments.

Today is a great day for Turks and Turkish defense industry. I’m very proud of TAI’s work so far and I’m looking forward to see the TF-X fly in the coming years. I’m sure the pictures above will definitely give a great boost of motivation and determination for the Turkish defense industry. Really nice !

I do not think she will have the RCS value of F35,but MMU nose radar will be superior to F35 and in the end F35 more stealth but MMU have more good eyes, and more agile, other things not vital.
I would say; Don’t underestimate the Turkish and BAE Systems engineers who have been designing this plane for all these years.
Also the target to achieve is not the stealthiness of F35. But of F22.
If they are building a plane the shape of what we have seen today, they are not going to make it that visible to radars. There is a good example in front of them as F22 with enough pictures and drawings that are easily accessible.
The RAM paint and the engine nozzle will be the greatest challenges to overcome. Tusas may still have more in their secret back room to reveal to us all in the times to come.

That is the twin engined configuration of the F110 that are used in F15 planes.
Ok, i just read that that would compromise on stealthyness of the plane, i guess it has something to do with the exhaust gasses of the F110 engine?

No one is going to sell us stealthy engines for our stealth planes. So we have to make do with the next best engines we can get our hands on. These are F110s, in spite of the fact that they would compromise the plane’s stealth.
One of the prerequisites of stealth planes is the capability of achieving high supercruise. An engine like F110 with 16600lbf dry thrust is not going to cut it. We need at least 24000lbf dry thrust engines to do that.
Also stealthiness of an engine has more to do with the air flow through the engine and bypass channels, as well as out of it’s nozzle. Both sound levels and IR signature of the air coming out of the nozzle has to be low and suppressed.
OK. The first prototypes with the F110 engines will not be really stealthy as we would like them to be. But this will all be irrelevant when the indigenous engine is in place.

Guys even with the F-110 engines it will be more stealthy than Korean KF-21 Boramae and any 4/4.5 gen fighters.

Ofcourse the Prototypes can also be compromised in that regard, we need them as test bed for the subsystems anyways, there is enough work with the Electronics development and optimization.
We are talking about at least a decade of flight testings before the project gets ready for serial production, stealthyness is not that important in that period.

I hope the engine development will be a success.

Some excellent pictures. Congratulations are in order for the Turkish program thus far here.

Will be interesting to continue to follow its progress in the years to come.
