The American military industrial complex is huge to be honest whatever money they pour into is a drop in the pond.

If Turkiye done the same thing it would be scandals, turmoils and chaos if such money got spent on a failed project.

In the long term if a project fails to the Americans its a template for the future to do better but also gives contractors and politicians still get their cash bonuses.
They have the luxury to throw money on such military procurements but this one left a scar.

Usa's military companies are pretty powerful.

They are all in the Top 10 like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, General Dyanmics, General Atomics, Raytheon and Northrop Grumman.

I love the J-20 and would say that it is a great option. Unfortunately China is not willing to sell it to anyone. The FC-31 Is their export stealth jet.

İ think the J20 is the only one stealth fighter that could reach Libya airspace without refueling. According to internet its combat range 2000km , that's what we need:) 20-30 j-20 would be great.

About the engine, Demir stated: "When it comes to engines, we had also initial engine design and development started, in the mean time we are going to use a readily available engine, not going to be exactly matching the requirements of the final design and our indigenous engine capability is different. But as long as the size and geometry and other paratemers are concerned we selected one or two of the engines available in the world so that we can at least have a roll out on time and first flight on time and hope that our indigenous engine is ready after 2027".

The way the Turkish defense is so open about their developments feels like I'm hooked to an intravenous drip filled with heroine 🥴. What other country's defense executives are giving interviews to amateurs on youtube and on (*******) twitch??

The statement 'one or two engines available in the world" would IMO mean either the GE F110-129/132 or the PW F100-129 as they are very similar in size (length and diameter), weight and thrust.

Well, if you listen to Mahmut Aksit, he says that although at the moment, they have not been given the job of developing a new engine for TFX, they will be producing the f110 engines for the prototypes and probably the first planes. This makes sense as TEI has extensive expertise in manufacturing F110 engines and it’s parts.

Hei, do you think the ambition to make indigenous engine comes from the real intention to be independent and the belief in current capability or it is because the project get difficulty to get engine supply from the Westerners ??

Yes this is the best route.

Turkey designing military turbofan engine from scratch will ideally need grounded ecosystem in the hurjet class first.

That will be more pragmatic one to develop first, test and learn from and iterate further.... given turbine inlet temp and reheat needs will be more forgiving....and that is where the bulk of the "starting inertia" RnD gap is mostly tied to for countries seeking to make major progress in indigenous knowhow and capability in this field....since the knowhow in cold section is already mostly established.

Sooner or later a conflict of interest would happen and supplies would be cut off, so obvious.

In an exclusive interview with defensehere.com, the President of the Presidency of Turkish Defence Industries (SSB) Prof. Dr. Ismail Demir talked about the latest developments in the TF-X project that is being carried out by Turkish Aerospace.

We are presenting the third part of our interview with Prof. Dr. Ismail Demir, about the National Combat Aircraft (TF-X):

Defensehere.com: What are the latest developments in the National Combat Aircraft (TF-X) project and what is coming up next? Have there been any decisions taken in regards to the engine of the aircraft?

The President of SSB Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir:

Our national fighter project TF-X, what we call it, is on track and the number of engineers are working in our design center and the project is really going well. As know we had agreement with BAE Systems and certain number of engineers are supporting our program through BAE systems.

And their teams and our teams are working together, and as I said the program is on track. We don’t expect any surprises and it is not an easy project. Of course, considering that turkey didn’t have much experience about the area of the jet fighters.

We are collecting people and they are undergoing training. And design processes, retentive processes and parametric studies, etc., and some of the wind tunnel studies have already been started and we are performing that.

And the first metal cut was performed last week, so we are trying to develop that and when it comes to engine, we had also initial engine design development process started, and in the mean time as a intermediate solution we are going to use a ready available engine. Of Course, that won’t be exactly matching the requirements of the final design, and our indigenous engine project’s engine capabilities are much different, but as long as the size, the geometry and some other parameters are concerned, we have selected one of the engines available in the world, so that we can have at least our role out be on time, maybe our also first flight on time with the old shaft engine, after that we hope that our indigenous engine will be ready after 2026 or 2027.

Now with the rumor that the mk41 VLS has been embargoed by the US, I think one can make the case that Ismail Demir's statement regarding the 'two' (different) engines that are able to power the prototypes of the TF-X/MMU are F110-GE-129 or AL-31F.

Turkey could theoretically use spare F110-GE-129 engines in its inventory, but that would most probably be a violation of the contract and would make things even worse for Turkey.
